As someone who has ran on both, I would say the new one at the fairgrounds is probably better than the IU one and there is a lot more space in the building
Trying to make a list of the best indoor tracks in every state. Roughly what I've come up with but I don't know flat tracks outside New England very well:
Maine- University of Southern Maine
New Hampshire- Dartmouth
Vermont- Middlebury
Massachusetts- Boston University
Rhode Island- URI
Connecticut- Yale
New York- Armory
New Jersey- Princeton?
Pennsylvania- Penn State
Maryland- Navy
Virginia- VA Beach Sportscenter
South Carolina- Clemson
Michigan- UMichigan
Illinois- Gately
Alabama- Birmingham Crossplex
Arkansas- UArkansas
Kentucky- Louisville
Washington- The Podium
Texas- Texas A&M
New Mexico- Albuquerque Convention Center
Not sure if every state has an indoor track. Does the Portland OR track that hosted worlds in 2016 still exist?
Washington--Dempsey for anything over 400m, and it's not even close. You might have an argument if The Podium were at sea level.
Delaware- Tower Hill High School (xxxm flat) Florida- Alachua County Sports & Event Center (Temporary 200m banked) Idaho- Idaho State (200m temporary banked)- Pocatello Missouri- Northwest Missouri State (300m flat)- Maryville or Mizzou 200m banked Nevada- Reno-Sparks Convention Center (200m banked Temporary) New Hampshire- UNH (193m? banked) New York- Armory (200m banked)- New York or Ocean Breeze (200m banked) Rhode Island- URI (200m flat)- South Kingstown or Moses Brown High School (xxxm banked)??? Wisconsin- Pettit National Ice Center (443m flat!!!! longest indoor track in US)
MN - not aware of any banked tracks in our beautiful state. St. Thomas probably has the newest indoor facility so I'm guessing that's the best. UofM probably gets better times just by virtue of being D1 though. And it is a pretty nice one. That's where I ran my 3K PR as a d3 scrub FWIW. If anybody can attest to any other tracks please feel free to correct me.
Minnesota State Mankato's is better than U of MN. Not sure about St Thomas's facility

When the UNH track was made it was 10 laps to the mile. There was a Vermont, Maine New Hampshire high school championship there one winter.
The best indoor facility is probably at Phillips Exeter Academy.
Designed to benefit the entire community with recreational space, the Thompson Field House provides year-round, highly advanced training facilities for the track and field teams and a dedicated wrestling center.
