By all accounts the D3 ncaa course was among the fastest courses in the country. It is Woodbridge Invitational type fast. Based on speed rating data from HS xc the Woodward park times all convert to about 13:33 for 3 miles at Woodbridge which is the same speed of the course.

Converting from 3 miles to 8km can simply be done by multiplying by 1.73 (a conservative conversion I would say).

When you do this you get 23:26 avg for 1-3. Off by about ten seconds from my ballpark guess in the previous post but still reasonably close.

There are actual hills in the Louisville. There was also wind, and it was muddy. Also a championship race, which means championship tactics. The top 4 guys were off for a stroll for the first 5k until they decided to start racing. Phillip dropped. 15 pow 5k, and then decided to run an 8:25 3k…

Ah...just multiply by 1.73! Of course!

And ignore that when people finish a 5k and then walk all wobbly and are totally smoked don't actually tend to carry their speed for another 3 kilometers without dropping off, if they can even run another quarter mile.

You are assuming the course was accurately measured, and you know what happens when you assume, right?

1.73 is an appropriate multiplier for a race that is 1.62 times longer than the original. That accounts for a 6.7% slow down. This is in line with what you see in 5k to 10k races all the time.

Hillier than Woodbridge, yes. Also in the 40s with 15 mph winds . So, colder and hillier than woodbridge. And there was mud if you actually went on the course, which I’m sure you didn’t.

I just watched the video and didn't notice the hills at Tom Sawyer Park. Those that I spoke with that were there labeled it as "mainly flat". 40s is great CC weather and I also didn't notice any mud on any of the finishers.

Is 20' of undulations considered hilly where you come from?

Any video or photo evidence of all the mud that produced such slow D3 times on that cold, windy day and on such a hilly course?

I have changed my mind. I now believe their 1st 4 would have run 23:30 and their 5th 24:15. They clearly are better than teams of guys that didn't go D1 and who will be working in cubicles next year.

Are you dense? I said hillier than Woodbridge. Check any strava from the race and it will show you that there was around 150 ft of election gain. Compared to the <20 ft on perfect grass. Check historical weather data to see that it was in the 40s with 15 mph winds on race day. As for the mud, it was definitely there. Some of the turns by the BMX park and over by the mile/3k split, among other locations. You probably don’t know what I’m talking about though, because all of your information is the visuals you got from a crappy youtube livestream that had an aerial view half the time.

Why no mud on anyone including their shoes? Do you really feel temps in the 40s have a negative impact in one's racing time? Lots of trees that must have knocked the wind down since it is hardly noticeable in much of the video.

So if as bad as you make the Louisville course and conditions out to be - why so many fast times? How much short was the course?
