Whoa, they just showed the US runner walking out to her starting position last night and NO official directed her there.

Check out 127:25. The official just motions for the #2 runners to get on the track and she walks directly to the wrong place. The DQ should absolutely stick.

The U.S. and D.R. were both reinstated, so they must have thought the officials were at fault. But it was so ludicrous with the U.S., waiting 20m after the rest of the athletes despite being in the 2nd or third lane, that I wouldn't reinstate. Lewis Johnson was probably just disgusted with all of the embarrassing dq's and drops in U.S. relays. You'd think with all the extraordinary hard work and talent in our sprinters that they'd put the work in on the relays to get golds that are practically gimmes for them, at least in years that Jamaica is not doping without compunction.

What? She is standing right at the beginning of the zone. All of the other runners are in the zone. Only Irby started outside the zone.

Thinking about this I bet it was a communication/language issue where the runner asked where the zone started and the official told her where it ended, cuz she made a bee line for the blue line. Now why she didn't figure something was amiss when she was all by herself is a fair question.

If you couldn't tell from the 7 others lined up in a neat line far away, the start and end marks are painted right on the track! What Olympic track athlete needs to ask where the changeover zone is? She should not have to ask where the zone begins or ends. She should know it already. Even if she had never seen the track before, it is very clear and obvious where the zones begin and end. No excuses. There is nothing confusing about the markings.

Glad you said this about penalties. I’ve been lobbying to have the false start rule changed in the same way….100m, a FS gets you a 0.1 penalty, 200 is 0.2. I approach a VERY high level T&F journalist about this, he ridiculed me. I said, name me a sport where you lose the ability to earn a living based on a starting line twitch….he said drag racing….i said, ok that’s a 4th or 5th tier sport! Don’t you want to elevate the sport rather than reduce it?????
