My goal of sub 4:00 1500-I will not stop until I reach my goal.

While intervals make for good prattle on sites, you do realize all Eddy has to do is 70mpw Jan-april and boom - sub-4 guaranteed. Forget intervals - the guy has more than enough natural speed, he just needs endurance. Also his coach needs to meet a firing squad.

Seb Coe himself said he came off a winter of exclusively distance (no speedwork) and his first session was something like 6x800 ave 1:52 with 1 min (approx.look it up)

You are wrong when defining tempo or AT intensity. Those shouldn´t be so hard (15k race pace) and the real AT intensity doesn´t vary (you say that longer tempos should be run at slower pace than short ones).

Just because Steve Scott didn´t do much of those long hard reps (up to 2k) you cannot say that others shouldn´t either do those. Scott did plenty of races from about 5 to 10k`s through winter, those are targeting the same systems (90-100% of Vo2Max).

For someone who has a lot of fast twitches those long hard intervals are very important in order to maximize the aerobic capacity.

Not at Eddylees level they're not.

If anyone did, Scott, running about 80 mpw all year except in the 40s during the Euro season, had the base to concentrate on speed in the run-up to the European season, yet even he would do 1k's, 800's, 600's, and a lot of fast longer runs, in addition to getting a lot of quality pace work just from racing the mile and 3k and other distances over and over. He had a total of 43 races in that 52 week period covered in the log. He was doing low 28 road 10k's the previous fall/winter. Eddy and the other guys here don't have a huge base or a lot of quality tempos and they don't seem to do any overdistance racing (boingo had a 3k indoors, I think) in the calendar year. Explain to me why that work would not be beneficial to them (other than in the last days of their seasons).

28:02 5M tempo yesterday (5:56,5:46,5:27,5:31,5:22) and today's 11.4M started very slowly but eventually got into a six mile stretch with 6:11,6:59,6:54,6:33,6:20,5:52.

Latest 1500m report: 4:16.15 - 64.xx, 2:12.xx 3:23.xx and 4:16.15 - I gave it all I had to try to bust 4:10. However, once again I blew up during the 3rd lap. Wheels started coming off last quarter. One could argue I went out too fast. But I don't know... I'm simply not there yet. I've only been at this come-back game competitively for less than a year and I believe I don't have enough base(years) the body requires to give the body the endurance it needs to run faster.

I've done it before... it takes time. I've got a couple mile races and more meets in June that I'm planning on doing. Gonna keep going.

In addition, a couple of hours later ran a 17:02.45 5k.

Well, after my poor showing in the 5000 two weeks ago, a little redemption today for me in the 800. The wheels have fallen off a little in training - I was beginning to think I'd inadvertently peaked and was on the downhill - but I ran a solid 800 today. 1:56.13 winning my heat (gotta appreciate those wins since they are few and far between). Only 0.55 off my lifetime best! Though that was 11 (!) years ago in high school, so I'm happy to be back in this kind of shape. Never thought I'd be here again.

Got three of the Boston High Performance meets and Club Nationals still to come. Can't decide if I should focus on the 1500 and shoot for that sub-4 or the 800 and try to take down my pr. I'll probably try for both.

I'm not gonna lie. I hate all letsrunners and headed out to the Oxy invite determined to prevent Eddy from achieving his goal. Despite only having a 4:24 1500 PR and being a 30 year old college dropout, I lied my way into the race and immediately boxed Eddy in near the back of the pack and began crowding/elbowing. He finally got pissed and broke loose around the 600 mark and made a surge to cover the 20 yard deficit I had cost him. He may be annoying as hell, but he sure can run! I only got in one good heel clip before he was off to the races and back with the leaders. He was obviously not ready to let some jerk ruin his dream. Unfortunately for Eddy, he failed to calculate just how far I would go. I threw in an Alan Webb suicide surge and just sprung onto his back like a rabid monkey. He fought his way forward for a few steps and then the tears started flowing as did his best London Bridge imitation. He managed to punch me in the eye and spike me in the nutsack which is a much bigger problem than one might imagine. I hobbled to the parking lot as fast as I could to avoid the cops, but did glance back to see Eddy springing off the ground heroically and attempting to finish the race. I seriously doubt he broke 4. I feel like I really accomplished something today, and look forward to another year of watching letsrunners suffer through this thread.

by the way, you are one of us -the letsrunners. so you hate yourself too, and I can see why.

Eddy this is the dumbest post I've ever seen.

As is right now, no one believes you. If its not true and they close down now you will go down in LR lore as a loser. What you should do is go sub-4, then post with proof. Then wait for independent verification - then they close the thread and everyone's happy. If you really did it you can redeem some face (with some people)by showing proof and exiting gracefully.

Let this be a lesson to the rest of you posters that you should carefully assess the surrounding environment before you accidentally say anything stupid.

The title of this thread is ironically the greatest obstacle for Eddy and his friends. The goal should always be to progress one’s training, defeat current competition, advance to more competitive races, and finally to experience the most excruciating pain humanly possible without causing injury. When we wake up at 4 in the morning flashlight in hand to add an extra 12k before our standard 3-a-day workouts, you must understand that we our compulsively reliving a childhood of constant hunger and ruthless beatings. We crave more training, more victories, a closer relationship with god, and that near death rush when we are about to blackout and go unconscious but will ultimately survive. Don’t waste good time chasing an arbitrary goal when dozens of young men exactly like yourself find a way to compete with the best in the world.
