Goddard made a video pretending to surprise his best man with running gear to run London in.
To no-ones surprise its an advert and he just spends the video promoting how amazing the uniqlo store looks and then at the end gives his mate what seems to be some of the worst running attire known to mankind and you can just see his mate having to pretend to be grateful for it and putting on a gritted smile though his teeth.
Hahaha I thought the same, that running kit looked awful and who tf goes to uniqlo to buy a running kit... Smh 🤦♂
Why must people keep bringing up sirpoc? Why are we throwing him into comparisons so much? He's not a YouTuber (what this thread was originally about) and he's not much of a running "influencer" (what this thread has become.) So many people here get their panties in a twist about other, actual YouTubers have cult-like followers, but wow... ya'll are really obsessed with this guy.
I'm taking the bait. It's because he's the bar to be compared to as far as internet running personalities go.
"Running Influencers" only exist because social media companies and brands pay people for attention. They don't exist to provide value to the running community, they just provide "content".
Which is why this thread was made to clown on the self-serving, narcissistic, wank stains that were clogging up everyone's feed. Meanwhile Mr. Poc's given back more value to the greater community than any influencer ever has, and has done it while not being a vain attention-seeking twat about it.
Funny how “sharing training” suddenly becomes “ego” the second someone is actually consistent and, yes, in good shape. Posting heart rate isn’t some secret flex, it’s just a basic metric. People ask about effort, that’s one way to show it without writing a dissertation every day.
And the whole “used to be chubby so now obsessed” thing… or maybe it’s just called maintaining something you worked for. Shocking concept.
If the content feels repetitive, it’s probably because training is repetitive. Turns out running well isn’t built on novelty.
Anyway, if it’s that embarrassing, no one’s forcing you to watch my stuff. Funny how the “monkey performing” still seems to hold your attention though.

Enjoyed his but about going to runna hq to have Anya Culling talk him through a pacing strategy. Brother is trying to hit 2 half marathon pbs back to back essentially - the strategy is prayers.
Also not sure that unqualified coach Anya - who has only ever run well when she's been paced herself by male pacemakers is someone I'd ask about pacing

Awful stuff, he looked well happy didn't he. Looking at the comments on any instagram post doing ads it always looks like 95% of the engagement comes from other influencers or wannabe influencers sounding like bots.
Floberg 8x800 today at marathon pace. Ok fine no issues with the workout. Do whatever last time up you want several days out from the big race. But his captions still get me “heart rate so low. So fresh and fit”. He’s literally obsessed with his heart rate and his abs ever since he felt like he isn’t the chubby kid anymore. It’s wild how much he strokes his own ego and how far up his own behind he is.
He is so oblivious to the fact that clearly his low HR is not a flex and honestly isn’t impressive and may actually indicate an overall problem he has. Just embarassing at this point. Grown man performing for social media like a monkey daily and vocabulary only consisting of “core memory, freaking fit, heart rate, love the community”

lol hi Eric, can't wait for a haters monologue on the next video
Spectacular timing, if you look at his Strava, he's just done a double threshold day. With "LT1" morning session at 2.9mmol and "LT2" evening session at 2.7mmol. I don't even have a problem with Ben, he's done really well as a runner and seems like a nice guy, but man..
Exactly, it’s okay to say I’m not an expert on this I don’t know- I ask my coach”. He liked to make out his coach was more to bounce things off as he couldn’t just say I wanted someone who could advise me

Goddard doesn’t get enough hate for how much of a twat he is but I guess it’s cause he’s not successful or significant enough but man he did a fake doping control gag on his podcast with Hugo fry and I’m fairly sure even fry was like mate this is just weird not funny. Lad is a nonce.
Weather looks about perfect for Boston. What will Floberg's excuse be if he can't blame the weather this race? Not enough carb loading? Not enough mileage? Jokes aside, I hope he gets his goal, but I predict a 2:32:10.

Imagine taking pacing advice from someone who’s singular effective strategy was ‘follow Nick Bester’
He says it's "Half Marathon Pace" then runs 6 of them slower than his PR of 1:12 which is the equivalent of about 2:31. His HR for the 800m reps was higher than for his HM PR. So even though he is "so fit" he isn't in sub 2:30 shape
He isn't aware of what his max HR is. He says it's 190 but I don't think it got over 180 in his mile or 8k races recently.
Has he ever done like a lactate/VO2max-test to actually know his maximum heart rate and zones?
I don't think so. But the crazier thing is for all his HR tracking, he still doesn't know how to react to his own HR data. When you collect good data on yourself for years, you can learn your race pace HR's, what HR you hit in certain types of workouts, etc. It's always going to vary a bit, but you can get pretty precise, especially as you learn to add or subtract a few bpm for weather, etc.
He's got that data but he misinterprets it. As the other poster said, there's no reason to be optimistic about being in 2:29 shape based on those 800's. Not on a fast course and definitely not at Boston (barring a tailwind like in 2011).
Reminder that in October 2024, he ran 2:33:59 in Chicago where, by his own account, he was headed for a 2:32 before a calf cramp slowed down his final 4 miles. Looking at the HR data for that race, I actually believe he was going to finish strong if he didn't cramp. 18 months later, he's not any fitter.
6 months before that, he ran a 2:38 in Boston 2024 on a day that turned out warm -- upper 60's and sunny. It's a stretch to say that's equivalent to his 2:32's, but it's not that far off. And if he runs this race like an idiot and blows up, he could be looking at ~2:36 at Boston on a cold day when he ran 2:38 on a warm day 2 years ago. Of course he'll call that a "Boston PR" and a huge win.
Utterly plateaued for coming up on two years. How many times in the last two years has he been "so fit" and his HR "so low"? Oh, but technically he keeps PR'ing!

I disagree. Sirpoc and what he's brought to the community is wonderful. I'm not here to rip him. He's great. But other YouTuber's (initial point of this thread) have provided entertainment and inspiration to many. Just because they disgust you doesn't mean that's the case for others (obviously, right? otherwise, they wouldn't have become as popular as they are in the first place.) Also, people can be inspired and entertained without being so "OBSESSED" like you haters immediately default to thinking once someone tries to show some support for them. I took a ton of time off from running and then discovered the running YouTube scene once I started getting back into it. Felton ("Fenton") and Floberg provided a lot of joy for me, and they still do. It doesn't mean they're perfect examples. Also, I'm not just some blind follower– not a for anyone though. So, it's not as if I'm head over heels going to like and follow every single thing they say and do. I'm not ever paying into someone like Floberg's coaching, nor am I going to be running around with a Ben is Running shirt. But they've certainly provided value in a very positive way. Maybe not a whole training methodology, but that shouldn't matter. To each his own. Stop spreading such negativity.

The bonk at London will be generational, but seems like coach Kolling has him sorted for a sub 3

The language in your post ("they disgust you", "OBSESSED like you haters") tells me your trembling fingers are typing through a mountain of cope and seethe
I think you're confusing "entertainment" with "value" in my comment. It also takes a special level or reading comprehension to think my comment means every runner not named sirpoc who's ever posted to the internet is a wank stain.
I only watch because of that Sabria lady…oh wait, that’s me. Eric owes me an apology. I never agreed to be in his YouTube masterpieces…neither did our kids or his deceased grandparent. Nobody is safe…except sub 2:30.

A lot of it is entertaining, for the wrong reasons. It's meant to be a mix of entertainment and then information to share. Most of these guys have battered the same gimmick into the ground and when it comes to sharing information to new or inspiring runners, these videos are so often full of misinformation, or useless information, then that filters down. There's a few that are decent, but when you have an easy entry point - a camera and being a runner - it's inevitable it's gonna be pure garbage most of the time.
You watch a Floberg video, you might think that's an appropriate way to use or showcase your own family. Felton is harmless, but if you are inspiring to get better, what are you going to learn from someone who probably doesn't even know what lactate is, has all the time in the world to train and got faster when he cross trained for an extra 10+ hours a week? That's hardly teaching the average 40+ hour a week worker of what they can do to get better under time constraints.
You can't trust any of these guys anymore to even be honest about any shoes or running gear, because they are terrified they say one bad thing their supply is cut off.
Sirpoc has done he a great favour, he cuts through all the waffle and I don't really need to watch these guys anymore, in fact I've been running four years and realised I learned very little from all the hours. I wasted watching content. He said he will never make content, which is a shame. Seville sounded like he could have made some good videos. He dropped out of a marathon, went to the pub in full kit and then people reported seeing him riding round the city on a bike cheering people on. He did that for his own entertainment. Not so he could make a video out of it and share it with everyone. But, people right, he's not a youtuber and I'm sure he's very happy about that.

Never had a truer word been said. FOD sometimes sends me screenshots from this thread, it's quite amusing. I like the new version of myself who doesn't even have GCSE's ha ha.
You will never see me making videos, I'm sure people are thankful for that. If people ask me on a podcast, I sometimes say yes, but say no more often than not. I usually check them out first to see if it's going to be worth it. This is the extent of the running content I consume, which is close to zero. I even unsubscribed from Andy's channel as i can't go about my daily business without another alert popping up about a new video of his ha ha.
People have said come on their channel and they'll promote the book. I'm not even comfortable with that. One person even said they will help "shill" the book for me. That's just not me. I felt bad even producing a book and charging for it, but ultimately it was really the only way to control the spread of misinformation of things I had apparently said.
A few brands have asked me to help promote or push stuff. Again, red flags here are that the message is usually "keep all comments positive, it's better for brand engagement" - but I couldn't live with myself promoting something I know is dog s**t. Times are tight enough as it is for a lot of people out there.
Anyway, I'm off back to the NSM thread to continue my mission of turning lexel into a baby-face.

excited for the next episode where he moans all episode over and over about the usual taper issues hes heard people have, even if he isnt experiencing anything himself. obviously with some CCP state funded propaganda thrown in while he drives a car around for some reason
Yes, they also need to be added - both went through a downturn, burnout and breaks. this is a normal part even for strong runners, not a unique situation.
