Some would even say Kelvin Kiptum. His record will be broken but he won’t be forgotten, as he shined so brightly for so brief a time.

He (and Pat Casey, potentially another answer) put Bozeman on the map. Easily one of the most entertaining NCAA races ever:

In case anyone forgot or never knew, Menjo is the guy who out of the blue shows up in Finland to solo a 26:56 in 2010. Nobody had ever heard of him. Although imagine my surprise to see that in 2024 he ran a 2:11 marathon at age 45.

Soratos is a great shout! I was really trying off the top of my head to not just list American white dudes from when I was in high school/college but I struggled hard. Should have thought about Bozeman and Salinas' own legend!

Also, going on some NCAA guys I'll add two: Lawi Lalang and Kennedy Kithuka. Pre-Ches these guys were a PROBLEM in the NCAA. Lawi ran 13:00 in a Diamond League (remember folks, this is early 2010s) and then Kithuka seemed to just dominate and then disappear once Ches showed up. Genuinely no idea what happened to Kennedy but I know Lawi ran for the WCAP program for a while.
