12/07/2019 - You missed the point. let's see where they'll be in 5 years. And it's also very likely that someone who didn't make it past NXR or Footlocker will surpass them all.
You mean like Tuohy? Remember when Tuohy was the candidate for her age group? Parker left her behind and a younger Addy Wiley also did. This thread aged very well.
3:34 (3:33 is CR)/12:57 CR/26:52 CR, XC 2nd vs. 8:35/15:03, XC champ.
Isn’t the 3000 a CR? I imagine Nico would give his 2 indoor titles for an XC title but who knows, and I agree at this point he has edged ahead of her. But I wouldn’t wanna guess who will be better in 2-4 years, who f’in knows. Just as this answer has flip flopped a couple times since Rojo’s post, it may continue to.
Edged? Young has enjoyed an unprecedented improvement from being beat by 26 seconds at NCAA XC, to 26:52 and even becoming one of the best 1500m NCAA 1500m runners. This won’t happen to Tuohy, or any other American runner.
Although it’s extremely unlikely she’ll approach Young’s level, her making a comeback and challenging Valby is not out of the question.

Actually logic would say that Tuohy has had the more dominant career
And that if she sticks with it and keeps working hard that she'll survive the natural cycles that all women Runners face and pull through like a champ
If she sticks with it she can be an awesome 5000 10000 meter Runner & Beyond. I think the 10K will be her sweet spot in 5 years
Yeah but I'm going with the person who has set a course record on every course they have ever run. And have utterly dominated their sport for three straight years
You went with the wrong one. Rojo was correct as usual.
She broke the course record in the rain and cold in 2017. She has won in snow and ice. Just a tough runner, which you have to be to be dominate in xc. The course was a muddy mess yesterday, but she won anyway. I don't think she looks any less fit than last season. And she broke a national record in track just this year. But none of us have a crystal ball. Still, she just won another NXN and people are writing her off. Really strange sport.
Some of us do have a crystal ball. We told you that Nico would be great and Tuohy would flame out.
Hats off to Tuohy. She just 3 peated and did it in amazing fashion. Had two women run her down and pull just about even with 200 meters to go but she found a way to hold them off.
But logic says Young has to be considered the bigger prospect.
1) Young nearly 15 seconds better than the next best US HSer right now.
2) Tuohy had 2 other girls right behind her within 1 second.
3) Tuohy isn't as a good as she was last year according to the Tully speed ratings. Her best mark this year would have been her #6 from last year.
When you combine those facts with all of the other struggles that HS girls phenoms have had over the years, I think Young is clearly the bigger prospect.

PS. Please remember you are talking about real human beings in this thread.
Where did these 2 end up? One is national record holder and Olympian while the other is slower than former D3 runners and high schoolers and wouldn't be top 5 on their college team.

She ended indoor season ranked 46th in the world in the 3000. Its hard to say 8:45 is a time that wouldn't make D3 teams and is slower than hs'ers.
What was the top D3 time in the women's 3000 - 9:23 this year.
I have to laugh at your statement. Tuohy would have entered D1 nationals with the 13th fastest time if she were still in college.
We'll see her outdoors this year and goofs like you will be wondering how she reemerged lol.
