Wrong again. We have guys running 22.x on the team but our 4:10 milers over the past years all ran about 25. One only ran 26. Our best miker right now is 4:15 and 25 yet we have a dozen sprinteds who can beat him by 2 seconds in the 200. Hirsch claims to have run 60 last week in the 400 for the first time in his life. He would only run 28 but could certainly run 4:10.
Why don’t you just tell us what high school you’re coaching at so we can see for ourselves.
Either way you are missing the point: a certain amount of basic speed is needed to run a certain time over a mile, 5000, marathon, etc.
Chances are none of your distance guys have actually raced the 200, so you’re ballparking based on 200s they’ve run in practice, likely as part of a workout.
How many 2:03 800 runners do you know that can’t break 60 for 400? Just because someone hasn’t done something doesn’t mean they can’t.
