Best "so bad it's funny" movie: Plan 9 From Outer Space.
Worst movie that everyone thinks is a good movie: My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I mean, WTF? Why is this movie so popular?
Plan 9 From Outer Space has to be the winner. Hilarious, and the director, Ed Wood, thought he was seriously making a horror film, somehow getting Bella Lugosi and Vampira to appear.
I thought Sideways was excellent. Watched it multiple times..
There are two tiers. The first is awful movies that could make it to theaters and had people you've heard of but were just terrible. Three come to mind here:
Warcraft
Independence Day 2 - absolute atrocity after the first one which was a quality movie.
Wickerman - except for the unintentionally hilarious part where Nick Cage is dressed in a bear suit and punches a girl in the face.
The next tier is mystery science 3000 level movies. These are movies that such train wrecks you've. Ever heard of them and have no function plot or acting above an elementary school play level. One that is well known I'd throw in this category is The Room. I watched it after seeing the Disaster Artist and it is simply amazing.
It probably doesn't belong on an all-time list, but I did see the movie Bonhoeffer recently and it was awful in many ways.
I don't see that many movies so I'm generally entertained if it is decent. This stunk. Confusing plot, open ended story lines without resolution, kind of crappy acting with lots of preening. Strangely, the critics didn't mind it.

Eraserhead is at least a 4/5 film. Might be the best portrayal of the horror of being a parent of an infant or two. My kids are older, but might be the best sound and visual reflection of the anxiety I might experience even with older kids.
From a technical perspective, Eraserhead is one of the best sounding movies of all time. The importance of sound design has been lost in the era of streaming movies. Eraserhead is right from the peak era of sound design, and might be the best of that era, followed closely by Days of Heaven and perhaps Blow Out (just thinking off the top of my head). The only recent movie I can think that compares is The Sound of Metal. Many consider Lynch to have the best sound designed filmography in history, and Eraserhead is certainly his best in that regard. Often the sound only supports other technical aspects, but in Eraserhead, the cinematography and editing support the sound.
If you are only interested in narrative driven films, Eraserhead isn't for you. I prefer narrative driven films myself, which is why I'd knock Eraserhead down to a 4/5 from 5/5. Id also have to be in the right mood for it, unlike the previous mentioned days of heaven and blow out which Id be able to watch at any time.
"Jury Duty" is so bad that any sane person wants physical harm to come to Pauly Shore's character the entire movie.
I've never seen a movie where every single character in the movie was submental. That is, until I saw Napolean Dynamite. Someone brought it up so I'm going to comment. Napolean puts several tator tots in his pants pocket and then starts eating them in class. His classmate says "give me some of your tots". Would you eat tator tots out of someone's pants pocket? Neither would I. But in this movie, no one has an IQ over about 60.
Isn't that much of the point of Napoleon dynamite??? To me you are just describing well written characterization of low IQ characters (their actions certainly convinced you), which wouldn't itself make a movie bad.
What about the Elizabeth Taylor "Cleopatra" Maybe the worst film per $ spent..
I don't think it's good, but I wonder how much of being a product of it's time should be considered. Cleopatra is hard to watch from a modern perspective, but at the time it accomplished all it set out to do - being the highest grossing movie of its year and winning a ton of awards. I think the problem with it was its cost, not the finished product.

There are different kinds of bad movies. Some that come to mind:
Airplane 2 (worst sequel; so bad I feel fairly certain that they were intentionally trolling those who paid to go see it)
Road Trip (worst rip-off of another movie that was actually good and immediately preceeded it, that being Overnight Delivery)
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (worst rom-com; was neither romantic or comedic, it was just vicious)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (biggest WTF; a couple hours of my life that I'll never get back)
Breakfast at Tiffany's (very famous, starring one if the greatest actresses of all time, but just was not good, and featured one of the most racist character depictions in Hollywood history by Mickey Rooney)
Terminator (worst and most pointless movie that had an incredibly good sequel)
Riding in Cars With Boys (most depressing movie, was not advertised as a such, no real redeeming quality, thanks Drew Barrymore)
Hot Tub Time Machine (juvenile and vulgar without being funny)
Of course, I've seen lots of other bad movies over the years, but these ones were remarkable for being memorable, which most of the others were not.

Movies like Dodgeball, Anchorman, and Hot Tub Time Machine are brilliant. What do you expect from Vince Vaughn (and Lance!) in a dodgeball tournament? Will Ferrell as a news anchor? A bunch of teenagers in a jacuzzi that travels time? Get off your high horses.
The remake of Twister is god-fing-awful. Seriously. The original was cheesy, but at least entertaining. This one is so awful it makes me cringe. The soundtrack is good, the characters are paper thin. Napoleon Dynamite wasn't trying to take itself seriously, Twister did- that makes it the worst movie maybe ever

You have a point. And I thought "Dumb and Dumber" was hilarious. As was said in "Spinal Tap", it's a fine line between clever and stupid. For whatever reason, the movie depressed me with a group of dullards who I would never go near when I was in high school.
If you guys hate that one that much, what do you think of "Waterworld" and "The Postman?"

Costner was decent in Open Range, but he should have played it more like Eastwood or McQueen. He pussified that movie with his post-traumatic stress disorder. He had one good scene where he puts a bullet through that f***er's head. That was it.
Costner needs to grow a pair. He's just a chick flick star. Stupid f***er.
