Nice idea, but Shelby is actually faster than all of them at the 3000/5000 as well.

I grew up on the west coast and lived there for half of my life. The other half, my family and I have lived in the midwest. We raised a great family. Kids have great educations, are wonderful people and highly successful.

We have traveled the world and the Pacific Northwest is some of the most beautiful country anywhere but the cities of Portland and Seattle are not the same as they were 10 to 15 years ago. Glad we raised our kids in the Midwest. We visit and love the west coast but it’s always nice to return to the Midwest and the Midwest mentality of hard work, accountability for ones own actions (although that is diminishing...).

I understand that a set protocol designed for public safety called for a halt in action and an evacuation of the stadium. It had to be done - it's just ridiculous timing. When it comes to lightning, there's no fooling around. If someone - athlete, coach, volunteer, fan, terrorist, pedophile, etc. - had been struck, believe me, this message board would have had so many negative comments about how the meet should have been interrupted...well, not for the last two, maybe.

Yeah, holding a multi-day national championship in a midwestern city in Tornado Alley seems curious, though holding it in so many cities in the US right now would be a risk. There were tornado warnings in parts of Virginia yesterday, and storms all over the place in the mid-Atlantic. Maybe it should have been in Sacramento, like last year...when there were brutally-hot record temps! It's usually going to be a roll of the dice, no matter where it's held. For example, it's a high of 97 in Sacramento today, but 90 tomorrow. Breezy both days.

NBC must be sh*tting bricks. They chose to telecast, live, what has become a second-tier sport's championship in this country, and then the freakin' weather puts a nail in the coffin of their Sunday broadcast. It's bad that weather has interfered with this chance to showcase the sport, that's no lie!

The NBC telecast scrambled to fill airtime by rebroadcasting events from earlier in the championships. Good, I thought, I'll watch "my" event, the men's 1500, once again. Just as that race was about to begin - a race that I wanted to view again to see how badly Drew Hunter got boxed in (he spoke about in a post-race video interview) - there's a technical glitch!! No video!! OK, I'll listen, from the other room. Nope, NBC eventually can't fix the problem and breaks for a commercial - that SAME SHALANE FLANAGAN / ZOOM VAPORFLY COMMERCIAL, SHOWN MAYBE 548 TIMES TODAY ALONE!!! Aghhhhhh!!!!!!! And, without a word being spoken, that men's 1500 is dropped like a hot potato.

I'll watch the race again on USATF.TV, later. I hope. And hopefully NBCSN will air the last events from Des Moines when they are held later today.

Today was a real downer for NBC, for USATF, for fans. We're nothing compared to Mother Nature, are we?

There it is, the mythical "midwest mentality" that doesnt actually exist...they always fall back on that one when threatened!

If this event is 2nd tier, I don't want to see 3rd.

Wonder if anybody who had checked in will not scratch since they had a flight out this evening after their race and now would miss that flight

Live in Minneapolis and have traveled to Boston, Philadelphia and Seattle this year for different reasons. In general, East coast people seem angry, aggressive and ready to argue anything, like they assume the worst and that you are trying to cheat them. Seattle was different but good God the homeless, the stoners, the smokers. Wow, that was more depressing than driving home in snow when it's already dark at 5.

Is NBC Sports Gold the one you have to pay for? They originally intended to broadcast today for free, on NBC, but now because of the weather delay they're not going to let anyone watch it live for free, even online? That doesn't make any sense. I get not being able to air it live on TV due to other scheduled programs, but why not show it online where all you have to do is log in with your basic cable info like they do for other sporting events?

Nbc is the reason for track not being much more popular in this country.

nbc is such a joke i can't even comprehend it. absolutely absurd.
