What I don't get is this:

In any sport, but particarly track and field because it is easily measured and compared, athletes are constantly getting fitter and stronger. ALWAYS. There are world records almost every year and world record attempts happen pretty often as well-- athletes are believing they can go faster. At some point, the athletics world is going to have to accept the fact that improvement can happen without doping. Think back a few decades ago when the world record for the women's 5K was like 14:40. Now, that time would be DESTROYED in most diamond league races. Do you think that if those people had someone run 14:30 at the time that they would have been a little suspicious as well? A 14:30 currently is a stunning time, but no where near the world leader, much less the world record. My point is that you have to expect that CLEAN elite runners are going to produce world records at some point or another. And, who is to say the Genzebe Dibaba isn't that person? Or Kipyegon and Hassan a few steps behind her? I guess from my point of view, I couldn't follow this sport to only talk poorly of the so called "cheaters" whenever they have historic success.

No way anybody running these times should be above suspicion, but if i had to pick someone with the best chance to be clean it would be someone of her pedigree. What galls me most about doping is the donkeys to racehorses situation

The gene she shares with her sisters is "High Responder to PEDs", in addition to the "Ethio-Babe" gene she shares with Tiru.

Hopefully someone on this long post mentioned that Jama Aden was also working with Abdi when he ran a last 800 in 1:46 to win worlds in 1987 most of you don't know that Abdi didn't run from December to March that year. Yes at the time he was being coached by Cook but the facts are Jama knew what the race would be like and most likely trained her for the exact same scenario. Well done to Jama Aden and shows what great coaching can do to an athlete that has enormous talent!

Just seen the medal ceremony and Hassan looked as sour as Coe after the Moscow 800. Not a happy bunny at all.

I hate say it but this chick is Soooooooooooo DIRTY!!!! I watched this race last night and could not believe how freakin' fast she took off and MAINTAINED it throughout. She wasn't even close to being tired at the end. When the Chinese ran those amazing times in the early 1990's I was convinced they were doped...and so was everyone else. For her to run a World Class 800 time at the end of a 1500 (equal to a 1:43-1:44 for the end of a men's 1500) is completely insane!!! And now she's going to run the 5000.

The most surprising thing to me is that the next 3 women finished so close to her. With a performance like that I would have expected Dibaba to win by 3+ seconds.

women's running is very, very poor historically above 400 compared to men

i doubt kratoch's wr is worth better than 1'43-flat

similarly, genze's finish of 1'56.9 was worth ~ 1'46+

this is nominally similar to Abdi / hicham's finishes, but those were in 3'34 / 3'36 races, her's was more like a 3'46 for men

remember, 4'00 for women is a crap barrier : it's men's equivalent is maybe 3'38

genze's 1500wr is probably worth about 3'29-flat

I said that earlier in the thread. What Dibaba did at the end of a pedestrian race was not so exceptional as most people seem to think. Aregawi, who is nowhere near the shape she was in when she won the WC, ran the last 800 in 2,01.

You keep harping at Dibaba about doping with not a shred of evidence. spreadinig baseless rumours on this site about her. Runners will tell you that she has a near perfect body, 3 inches taller than her multiple gold medalist older sister, more muscular for shorter distances and not to forget advise from the entire family including her double gold medalist cousing. The town they grew up at 10,000 feet did not even have a decent clinic. Run barefoot to school, were never pampered by gear manufactureres and a vast school and collegiate sport system; they are natural born runners. When coached properly they can make improvements. What if she did not look tired, she finished around 4:08! The question should have been why some of the athlets were on the ground when they finished at 4:10!. I bet you there will be no mention of doping if Simpson finished the last 800 in 1:57. BTW, it is not like Dibaba has not been beaten; Simpson herself has beaten her handily. If and when the doping allegation is proven, then we should discuss it. Otherwise it will be ridiculous to go on every time an athletic makes a great stride.
