Once again, even if there was significant contact, this is only the "right" decision if we think it affected the outcome of the race. We need to think long and hard about why we have rules if they aren't meant to make sure that the best athletes win the race and go to worlds and are instead just meant to punish athletes for offending race etiquette.

If you honestly think that, had there been zero contact the entire race, the winner would've been someone other than Gabe or that the top two would've been someone other than Gabe and Rowbury, please stand up.

Your point #2 is just plain wrong. I've watched the replay of the contact (on the turn) multiple times in slow-motion, going over it again and again, forward and backward, as well as reviewing the recording prior to the contact.

FACT:

1) Hasay was repeatedly bouncing around from inside to outside, both from lane 1 to outer lanes, and even within Lane. In the straightway prior to the contact, she was in the middle of lane 1. Grunewald established position on the inside of Lane 1. After entering the turn, Hasay, moved closer to the rail and her foot caught Grunewald behind her where Grunewald was already at, still maintaining her already established position, tight-to-ther-ail. Once Hasay's foot made contact with Grunewald's leg, Hasay stumbled and lost momentum, so Grunewald deftly jumped outside and passed Hasay, avoiding further contact of consequence.

No, Grunewald was already established on the inside of Lane 1 going down the stretch, and gointo the turn, whereas, Hasay was in the middle of Lane 1 going into the turn, trying to keep from getting passed on the outside, trying to seize potential to go outside around Rowbury, thus leaving space for Grunewald to move up on the inside of Lane 1. Failing to pass Rowbury, and sensing no one coming around her, Hasay moved tighter to the rail going around the turn, and contacted Grunewald behind her, where Grunewald was already established tight against the rail.

Grunewald deftly passed Hasay when Hasay stumbled and lost momentum due to her trailing leg contacting Grunewald.

Agree. Hasay kept drifting from the outside to the inside of lane one for several laps while running in second. For whatever reason, she would run up on the leader's shoulder, and when she couldn't - or decided not to - pass, she would drift back to the rail. I'm surprised she didn't make contact with someone sooner.

Can we mention how Grunewald ran away from Rowbury like she was standing still in a last lap that looked like it could have been Makloufi in 2012, or are we not allowed to make that kind of comparison if it's not a Nike or East African athlete?

Gruenewald ran like nervous chicken and bumped into people numerous times during the race. Hasay could barely stay on her feet after she got plowed into and therefore a DQ would be in order!!!

You are correct, but apparently we are naive to assume that "rules" apply where certain Nike athletes are concerned.

I don't know what agendas some of you have but ANY runner would have to be STUPID to think they are going to pass another runner on the inside of lane 1 in a race where everybody is single file. It's clear the girl that won ran up on the other two as she was passing on the last lap and made contact with the first girl by tripping her. That's why they make tracks with more than one lane.

Are you trying to suggest that if the lead runner drifts wide to the right of Lane 1 [for the purposes of one or more of the following:

(a) to make it harder for others to pass her going around the turn;

(b) to try and pass the person ahead of her, should opportunity arise;

(c) to keep from getting boxed in;]...that as a result of doing so, other runners are not allowed to squeeze to the inside of her in Lane 1?!?

Grunewald had already maintained position to the inside of Lane 1, before Hasay moved to the inside of Lane 1 on the turn, whereby Hasay's trailing leg contacted Grunewald.

I think single file is debatable, Hassay was on the inside and outside of lane 1 after a failed attempt to pass rowbury as outlined above. I've passed on the inside multiple times without any adverse outcome, and have had it done to me. I've also been clipped indoor many a time, nary a DQ in sight.
