This is all speculation but I will entertain some of you. Greatest athlete to me is someone that has it all. When I mean it all I mean Health and Skill related components of fitness. So best athlete to me = most fit in all parameters. They also have the aptitude to pick up other activities with ease due to an acute kinesthetic awareness. Sorry for all of us running fans it not just running since athletics in general encompass a wide variety of activities..

Health Related Components of Fitness:

Cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition (Most elite athletes in any sport have these attributes)

Skill Related Components of Fitness

Agility, Balance, Power, Coordination, Speed, Reaction time (OK the parameters for these vary so much from each sport it isn't even funny)

Funny argument but I think create an obstacle course/torture test with very specific skill/test stations and you will figure it out quickly.. But, this is all speculation.

I'm glad someone else mentioned Nate. I think he is it. Great at track, football and basketball. Stronger than Lebron pound for pound and whether Lebron can do other things or not, Nate actually has in 2 other sports.

As far as the decathlon, if Nate could pole vault, he would do very well in scoring. High jump, long jump, throwing events as strong as he is, and can do the 100 in about 10.5.
