Are tattoos so commonplace that it's now cool to NOT have one?

When you roll out the gate of any major military base, it does not take long, for you to come across 3 types of establishments: the pawn shop, the strip club and the tattoo parlor. Often they are within walking distance of the base, which makes a lot of sense for their best customers.

yeah, tattoo removal isn't huge for a couple reasons. 1, it's said to be much more painful than the tattoo itself. 2, it's WAY more expensive than a tattoo.

since everybody on here thinks that those with tattoos are a bunch of welfare havin Joe Dirt types, no wonder they can't afford an elective surgery that costs thousands of dollars.

I agree, My father was an ss officer in ww2 and he had tattoos to identify with his regiment and hone of his loyalty to the ss. I since had these tattoos applied to my body and people now discriminate against me calling me a nazi and such. I am proud that my father was an ss officer and that is that. The large ss tattooed on the side of my head is something I am proud to bare in honor of my father and the swastikas ect on my arms and stuff is in honer of he time in the ss. Tattoos are very good way to make your statement and your personal preference to identify with anything that you wish to.

I'm amazed at how prevalent tattoos are. I never got one. I was tempted briefly in my 20s and the urge passed and now I have absolutely no desire.

There's nothing to generalize about tattoos. People get them for all sorts of reasons. Some are subtle, some are not, some are ugly, some are not (and all of this is subjective based on the viewer). Plenty of people regret tattoos, others don't. The amount of big tattoos in locations that are difficult to obscure (lower arm, neck) always surprises me.

Whenever I meet someone who wants to share their tattoo with me I just don't know how to respond. I just cannot understand how somebody would want that on their body...

I know a good amount of successful people with tattoos. Getting a tattoo is a personal preference, and most of you are judging and discriminating against those people for no apparent reason. Sounds like you all may be the "dbags/scum/losers" that need to take a look in the mirror, but who am I to judge...
