I think it's only one view of Christianity that holds that a woman should be a virgin on her wedding night. I think it's silly, but as it pertains to someone else it's none of my business.

My wife and I were both virgins when we got married. It was awesome. We follow Jesus.

I really like the fact that my wife has not had sex with anyone besides me. It is a beautiful thing, this kind of dedication. It is noble and right and difficult and that is one of the reasons people hate it, maybe.

Fine, borj hamderstein, truly! But you do realize Lolo Jones is thirty years old and has been all over the world. I hope she finds the reward you've found, but I think she's also already missed a really big chunk of her youth. I wouldn't have traded the experiences I had for anything. And there are countless beautiful marriages where both partners were NOT virgins.

I never said Christianity "advises" sex outside of wedlock. You're sounding like someone who really thinks Catholics don't practice birth control, just because the Pope says they shouldn't. And as far as fundamentalist Islam and pre-marital sex goes, I hope you're not suggesting that this is a model for anyone living in the modern world.

Since when does taking ownership of ones sexuality preclude making sacrifices for another person?

"The lord helps those who help themselves". If you don't take responsibility for your own needs in a marriage, these needs will not be met, and tension just grows and grows and grows. You can smoke all the bibles you want at that stage, but that still does not absolve you of the responsibility you have to yourself, your partner, and your marriage to bring your needs to the table so they can be addressed.

The belief of open-ended sacrifice with no reciprocation is a myth that destroys more marriages than anything else IMO.

And by the way, sex out of wedlock is not necessarily "promiscuous" sex.

The only thing weirder than people concerning themselves with the sex lives of others is people announcing to the world their own intercourse status.

She didn't crown herself the "virgin queen", doling out damnation to "sinners" everywhere. She simply expressed what her experience was like.

I have many, many friends who waited til marriage. Not because they were homely, lesbian or 500lbs, but because they saw and later experienced first-hand (hands?) the value of waiting. They weren't freaks or emotionally scarred, they just wanted it to mean more on their honeymoon and the years after.

It is a very normal idea.

And yes, my "friends" ;) probably did ruin a pair of sheets on their honeymoon ... and the chair, the desk, the minibar, bathroom rug, nightstand, towel racks, 4 sconces, 2 picture frames, couch, love-seat, couch, couch, love-seat, wicker chair, shower door, curtains, headboard...

I dated a 33 year old virgin chick and she pretty much a virgin out of fear. She grew up strict Catholic and was told she would go to hell, or get pregnant (and "ruin" her career), or get an STD. She was told there is no 100% sure fire way to prevent pregnancy or STD. Of course she became an adult she realized 98%+ of her friends probably won't go to hell, or get pregnant right off the bat or get an STD. To me that's just not a "grown up" reason (except maybe the religious aspect). I am not in favor of promiscuity. But two adults who have dated a certain amount of time, developed some trust between each other, should be able to have sex if they so choose to without "needing" to get married.

So no, not every female is saving themselves because it is a "noble" thing to do. This girl's reason was mostly fear based. After she realized that essentially her career was already set, that it's "safe enough" with a condom, she got her cherry popped (by someone else).

In this day and age most guys don't really care if the girl "saved herself." For me personally, I'd rather hit it with a girl who knows what she's doing... and swallows;)
