Oshier will destroy Verzbicas in the Dream Mile

Guys like LV are fully committed to the sport and do hard core training. [bold]Billy jogs and does a couple of repeats on the track.[/bold] I hope he gets a big PR though. I'm cheering for him and Oshier.

- I do think LV's kick is not to be overlooked as well, but not because he has fantastic raw speed, but because he can get to the end of the race with a higher aerobic ratio than the other guys.

Yeah or Walden who smoked Mudd by 5 seconds last month in their conference - because results from months ago mean everything.

Already been addressed, you can clearly see the 200 meter clock on the track and time it yourself (you can't see the time on the clock, but it marks where 200 is). I always get 26 and change.

Being from Indiana, I want to see Mudd win and break 4:00, but I do not see that happening. The only way I think he can win is if it's 3:04 or slower at the 1200, which is unlikely. I see him finishing around 4:02.5-4:03.0 and certainly not below 4:01.0. He does have potential to surprise though, because I think he's just learning how to run this distance.

I will take LV for the win under 4:00.

Lukas V is trying to break Webb's record anybody who thinks he won't win is just plain dumb i don't know if he will get 3.53 but he will be close if he doesn't.

yeah I agree with you. If it is a tactical race Mudd most certaintly has a shot, but I don't think he has sub 4:00 in him, especially for the full mile as opposed to the 1600. That being said, I didn't think Mudd could go under 4:09 in the 1600, and he killed that. This guy is full of surprises. He will sit on pretty much anybody, and if he gets in good position behind LV or Oshier or whoever wants to lead and has contact with 1 to go he could take it. I think some people are underestimating Lukas's kick, he can most certaintly hammer it home. However, what is all this 3:57 talk, since when was he going for a 3:57, I would give him a very high 3:57 at most, but a low 3:59 is far more likely. Lukas said last year he wanted a first 800 under 2:00, and apparently he gave up on trying to break 4:00 after that and just went ftw. Are there any more in contention for the win besides Ohsier, LV and Mudd?? I know some people have mentioned Orman, he is a solid pick. Frankly, Im kinda mad Walden wasn't on the list. Why not him over some of those guys??

Watching the video made it look like the first mile was closer to 4:15/6 if you timed him crossing the finish line location, which is not the split point.

That can't be right. A time of 4:16 at the finish line minus 1.2 would be 4:14.8, roughly speaking at the mile. I'm sure he was not 4:13.4 - perhaps those were splits from the start line, with no adjustments.

Actually 4:13.4 plus 1.2 would be 4:14.6 at the mile, and 4:15.8 at the finish, which is probably about where he was.

The video is on youtube, usually showing him crossing the finish line, so it wouldn't be too difficult to get a close approximation of the splits.

The thing is, Verzbicas won't allow this to be a tactical race.

This is his LAST race in High School, and he has full intentions of pulling it together to finally obtain the sub-4 mile that he has been chasing after. Even moreso since he has met every other goal he set this season.

He scored a double-national victory at Footlocker and NXN

He broke the 5000m Indoor Record at NBIN (again)

He scored a triple-national victory at NBIN

He finally obtained the 2-mile National Record that eluded him last year

All that's left for him is the sub-4 mile, and there isn't ANY doubt that he is NOT going to give up running hard for it in favor of winning a race that would barely register on his accomplishments thus far.

The announcer gives the yards splits on each lap for LV (after announcing the leader's split). LV was 4:14.5 at the mile (leader was 4:11).

And, if you listen, the announcer makes clear he is giving yards (e.g. 1320 yards) not just reading off where they cross the finish line.

Lukas never stated this time that he was going for the record. Even HE knows that obtaining the record would be highly unlikely, as it requires a 10-second drop from his current indoor PR. Remember that in his latest 2-mile race, he managed to drop only 11 seconds. Incredibly impressive without a doubt, but an 11-second drop in the 2-mile does NOT indicate that he is ready for a 10-second drop in the mile.

Fortunately however, as mentioned above, he isn't shooting for a 10-second drop in the mile for the record. Rather, he just wants a sub-4 performance, and his victory is more than likely guaranteed with it.

I say that Ivan Drago's been developed by people who really know how to train someone, how to get the most out of them; he does some very high quality workouts, like the quarters that were on flotrack last year; and his volume was much greater than other high school runners when you factor in all the cycling and swimming that he was doing as part of his triathlon training.

Destroy? That would take a pretty bad race by Lukas.

By most comparison charts, 8:29 for the 2 mile is equal to the 3:56-3:58 range for 1 mile. Even if Lukas isn't quite there (and I think he might be just as good at the mile as the 2 mile), it will take monster time to "destroy" him, assuming he doesn't have a huge off day. Is this Oshier guy as good as Webb or Ryun were in high school?

The splits I quoted were reported as his 400 meter splits. I can't speak for their accuracy, just making calculations IF they were correct. Would have better reason to trust someone recording 400 meter splits than the announcer from the booth reporting 440 yard splits.

Anyhow, I overlooked a factor which would slow down the earlier splits. Would now estimate pretty close to 4:14, 4:15.5 for his mile splits.
