just a side note, the 5th place finisher in the junior mens race has a date of birth of june 30th 1993, which would make him 15 years old and he will still be a junior in 2012.

There's something to be said for training as a team, which most of the Africans do. Until the U.S. gets a World XC coach and trains both juniors and seniors starting in at least February, to hell with indoor track, and ALL our best talent competes, then we don't have a chance in hell at a team medal.
I'd say the only one who might be disappointed is Puskedra. Not a great day as he should have been within striking range of Derrick as usual. We know Derrick is probably easily in sub-13:40 5K shape and running consistently, so Fernandez did well considering he's missed too many days of hard training to be sharp. He got his public goal of top 15, but internally he's probably seething at not getting his real goal. For any potentially great runner, it can only be a motivating factor. He's gotten close enough to taste the possibility of beating the future world's best. He'll get there.
It's hard to tell but it seems more competitive this year. Abshero could be the next Bekele, we'll see.
Neely Spence was 19th, not bad.

I agree wtih you and would go even further. Make then pro's and take them to Europe to race the circuit there. Train as a team, race as a team- pro XC runners.
Anyone serious about World XC has to skip indoors and train exclusively for World XC. That is the only way to be in top 5.
You would never do indoor whilst training for NCAA XC nats would you? So why do that for Worlds?
Both U.S. teams were 5th, good job. Men were 31 points shy of 4th place Uganda, not bad. I could see good things for the senior team in the next couple years if U.S. gets their sh*t together and makes it a priority. Gett Rupp and Ritz in there too.

The guy finished 11th - a very solid performance today there were 10 JR's better than him.

There is no senior american that could have won this race. It is likely Abshero could win senior race. He ran 42:17 in a 15Km last year and beat Bekele by a minute. this guy is the real deal. German's performance is fantastic considering stress reaction.

Good luck with that. Yeah, I'm Luke Puskedra or German Fernandez and even though I have college coaches that are planning my whole year, I'm just going to switch to a different coach for a few months during the winter for US cross. Nevermind if I've been running 60 or 110 miles a week, I should just switch to a different coach to be on the national team.
They can do it in Ethiopia, but not in free market America.

the years t. dibaba and k. bekele won world cross they both ran some indoor meets, t. dibaba usually runs the boston indoor a couple of others and world cross, mixing indoor and xc does dot seem to have hurt them.

Sorry, I was reading the points below not above. U.S. were actually only 22 pts off Uganda and 32 from Eritrea. Better performances from Puskedra and Dupont (who ran great, but Hill probably should have been further up) might have shaved enough points for a medal.
