My son is up there. Ran 25:28 at his first race last year and was one of the worst jv kids. Ended the season with a 24:03 season best. This year as a sophomore on the same course as the 25:28 ran 21:20, followed that up with 19:52 2 weeks later and still has some season left and is anywhere from his teams 5-8 guy depending on the day. He keeps improving every race now. He ran 5:50 in the mile last year and I wouldn’t be surprised if he runs 4:50 this year… super curious where he ends up.

A freshman ran something like a 12:30 pace last year and dropped all the way down to like a 8:40 by the end of the season. Now he just ran a 6:20 as a sophomore, and still has a couple races left in the season.

Minnetonka:

18:41 to 16:42. Helped his team go from 6th in districts last year to 4th in the region (state meet)

Josh Steiner is another guy to mention. He is the new #1 for Tosa East. After Wellestein / Matthais were gone there was obviously gonna be a new #1.
Last year he ran a 18:21/4:57/11:09/2:16.
At sections he ran a 16:46. He made it as an individual.
Tosa East got 4th in the tough section. These guys sure wanted to make it again.
I wonder if this team is gonna reload and be in contention for a state berth every year now. I think that’s what the Matthais were trying to instill based on this video:20 -

I ran 21:41 in my first 5k in xc as a freshmen, and got down to a season's best of 20:26. Sophomore year, my best time was 17:44. Senior year I ran 16:53.
We had a fat girl on the xc team that went from 55 minutes or so as a freshmen to 29 high as a senior. 26 minutes is a lot of improvement in a 5k.
