It's a race, Annie got to the finish line first, she won. The others had no rust----they all can't win! Geez, the "over-analysis can lead to paralysis" on these boards is hilarious.
This was a major road race. I found it ‘interesting’ they could get beat by Rodenfels in those times, even if not peaking.
Major road race? Other then some marathons and HMs, “major road race”is an oxymoron.
That was an encouraging result for Valby, who stuck with the leaders until the kick. She will have to either develop a kick or get fit enough to drop everyone earlier, as she could often do in the NCAA. Rodenfels with the stalwart tactics, not mixing it up with the surges but just maintaining sufficient contact to hammer at the end. Good to see Ellie running well already as well.
Valby was already yo-yo ing with the leaders at half way. She is clearly not in the best shape right now. You could see her struggling. Monson was out the back early, she has a long road.
Too bad Roe didn’t make the start line.
Rodenfels keep the leaders close enough to out kick everyone. She looked really good.
Whoever the reporter is he’s terrible. Sounds like someone off the street with an horrible voice attacking her with questions one after another. She handled it well. He sounds like an ahole

Earlier in the thread, I got downvoted for this:
“I don’t see that(her pushing the pace for the win) happening. She’s not running for a spot on a national team and it would make more sense to run whatever pace the front group is running, to test her fitness.”

If Valby had been in something like 14:45 fitness today, or even a little slower, it’s likely she would have won with a kick.
In that interview, I sense a more mature attitude. She’s been through hell for 8 months, learned a lot about herself, and seems content with where she’s at. It sounds like Emma was influential in helping her keep things in perspective.
Friend of mine flying into NY area airports said his flight was delayed more than 24 hours and the best he could do was a 6:00am flight out this morning. So maybe they couldn't get there.

Let’s give Jon some grace here, he lost his voice. So he had to yell to be understandable and his voice was raspy, but that wasn’t the vibe. I was there, and Parker recognized that he’d lost his voice and gave us a great interview filling the gaps on her injury, return to Palmer/Gainesville, rehab, connection with Coburn, USA cross, even Henegren. Jon isn’t an a-hole and he was definitely not attacking her. And Parker did a great job being open about a challenging year. Props to her, it will be a great story if she can end the year repping USA in XC.
