Best overall Ivy?

I had a close friend and hs teammate with similar times, a little slower at 1600 and a little faster at 3200 and she was best relatively at xc. She had 1530 on her SAT and 4.0/4.0 gpa and she was an accomplished dancer too. The only Ivy willing to offer her a spot was Brown (she didn't ask Cornell or Penn or Columbia). No interest from HYP or Dartmouth. She was offered spots at many great D3 schools and programs including Amherst, CMS, Pomona, Carleton, Vasser, Wesleyan. She ended up choosing Pomona for overall fit. She ran four years and had a great time. She was first team all conference, but most importantly, she loved the team and the school. It was a great outcome for her.

My son went to Dartmouth. He loved the school but the running program was a mess for much of his time there with a lot of turbulence in the coaching situation. But it’s likely to be a lot better now that Ben True appears to be firmly in charge of the men’s program.

The area around Dartmouth is great for long runs, but yes, the winters are cold and Hanover is in the middle of nowhere. Hard to get to, so not likely to get many parental visits (whether that’s good or not is up to you, I suppose).

As for overall prestige, that’s all overstated; any school is good if you know what you’re doing.

So I have two D3 officials and four Ivy officials (they conflict so I have to choose around). I will see who even offers me first before deciding what to do. Thanks for the insight on the schools so far/any more info is even more helpful.

Btw I have held back from saying this but my sister played soccer at a D3 and hated it and had to transfer so that's another big reason/turn off. This is not to say that D3s aren't great schools than lots of people love. Just experience of people close to me.

How did the division of the athletics department affect the desirability of the school?

It's not the fact that it's D3 full stop. Nothing wrong with the division. It's that D3 I would go to = a certain type of a bunch of schools/the one my sister went to

But I actually just asked about comparison of the Ivies and their programs with not a word about D3/other schools in the original post so I don't really know why I've had to argue about my schools and justify my entire life plan

My neighbor has about $100 saved. He makes a decent living though but he has no idea where his money goes. He is trying to decide between leasing a new BMW or Mercedes and asked me which one is better. I told him to keep his Camry that he owns and to save the money instead. The best advice is often that which we didn't ask for.

I still don't understand. MIT, Hopkins, Wash U, are all going to be the same as the Ivies. Whatever you are alluding to that you don't like, you will also experience at an Ivy.

Dartmouth is the Ivy where people are most likely to wear overalls.

However, the typical overall wearer would fit in better with the culture at Harvard (though not that well tbh).

Columbia is the ivy where a student would have the widest selection of overalls for purchase nearby - that is due to the volume of stores in NYC.
