If Nuguse wants a chance at winning the DL final next week, he absolutely can’t be starting in the back and running on the outside for most of the race. Needs to start in the top three and stay on the inside.
Didn't help that there were 18 starters. There will only be 12 in the final, so he should be better suited there.
Kessler pretty disappointing in that 1500. I generally liked his positioning, but when people started flying by him with 200 to go, he just mailed it in. He's an intriguing athlete, in that he has great speed, but seemingly doesn't deal with pace changes and disruptions in his rhythm very well. He races best when there's someone at the front turning it into a pure time trial (e.g. Jakob, Nuguse).
Yeah, total collapse last 150. He was also right behind Kipsang when he fell at 1200(?) but seemed to maintain position well after some imbalance - until the end.
If you were wondering how Yared got 3rd here and was gapped so badly. He ran 1530 meters...insane. With a huge field most ran around ~1515 meters.
Reynold Cheruiyot botched the tactics again, as a 12.6 last 100 only got him to 4th, when there's no question with better positioning and less shuffling back he beats Nader at least.
What I learned from P Koech is he doesn’t have that close like a Hocker/Laros/strand/jkoech in a more tactical race. There is a reason he only finished 4th in u20 800m last year.
1 mile steeplechase. Let’s go! How many national records go down in this one? I can’t imagine there is a very competitive records list in this event considering how odd the distance is

Laros is in a different class to everybody this year, it was clear from the Prefontaine Mile. The only question was Koech. That's been answered.
He's still only 20.
Bad week for Berardelli. The AIU must be watching that camp 24/7. Maybe they are feeling the heat?
No Coeturd. Koech didn't look absolutely devastated. That's what your racist eyes want to believe. I think GB is feeling the heat too. Have you seen Patingson and Whiteman? Anyway, glad you had a reason to use your Kleenex today. 😘

I think he bailed out at end when he knew he couldn't place high enough for points needed to get to DL final. He started season well indoors but it never quite came together for outdoors. It happens.

I think he looked devastated - rumour has it that someone from his hometown burst out laughing when they heard he is telling everyone that he is 18……

Yes, lost in the Koech obsession was that he seemed maxed out at high-12s/low-13s finishes albeit in fast races. Kerr had somewhat of an off race in London with a weak finish. he couldn't outkick Habz and his splits in Ostrava were solid but unspectacular. I think there's a reason AK pre-selected him as I suspect he wouldn't have made top 3 in a 3:48 race. He's a medal contender, but will be in trouble if plays out like today or at USAs. A 3:28-9 race would benefit him hugely.
