Hocker ran a 22 flat 200 as a HS sophomore and made it to his State meet semi finals. He could run 45 high and 1:41 if he trained as an 800 guy.
Kerr can run 47 and 1:42.
Nuguse 47 and 1:42. Ritz is having him rep some 11 sec 100m reps to prep for his grand slam 800.
Jakob 46 and 1:41.
Kessler. Close enough. 47 low and 1:42
My man, if Hocker could have run 45 and 1:41 coming out of HS or college, he would have been a 400 / 800 guy straight up and not bother with the 1500 at all.
Jakob does not have Coe level speed, he hasn't done anything to indicate he can run a 46 from standing start off of 1500m 5k training, especially in 2022, his slowest season as a senior.
I don't think you're quite understanding what that level of speed and endurance entails, even after others have already pointed it out. He would have been able to run 53s straight for the 1500 and easily demolish the WR.
Earlier today I messaged with Cooper Teare who I’ve known a few years now. I asked him a few questions about Cole’s top end speed, to confirm or deny details, and if he would be willing to share what he knows, and here’s what he had to say:
It is actually true that Cole ran a low 22 200 when he was in High School. I think it was his sophomore year, but I’ll ask him later. His 400 PR is from a time trial me and him did a few years back. He crossed the line in 47.4 and I finished a little behind in 47.7. That is also where I set my current PR. We didn’t use blocks, because we thought not being used to them they would slow our times down.
I think if Cole were to fully train as a sprinter I can easily see him running 21 high and 46 low. He would have to dedicate all his training to sprinting, e.g. plyometrics, weightlifting, strength resistance training, flexibility drills, and using starting blocks.
Could he sneak under 46 into like 45.8? My instinct says no, but this is Cole Hocker we are talking about, so I think he would find a way to will himself to do it. I think it would need to be a perfect day and every conceivable thing would have to go right.
Could I run that fast? Nope. Not with all the sprint training in the world. lol. I hope my answer has helped! Thanks for your support!

Jakob never claimed he could run 46 and Teare definitely didn’t write any of that. Stop flooding this thread with useless sht.

Facts are what facts are. Nobody is stopping you from going to the source material yourself and verifying for yourself. Once I receive the full Jakob interview with Aftenposten, I will be happy to provide the link. You’ll have to use google translate, and the translation to English won’t be perfect, but you’ll be able to decipher.
fyi - cole ran the 400m as a sophomore in 52.6h. does not indicate 22 low speed.
you do know also that cole ran a 4x400 last year and ran 48.6?
So you are really going to sit there at your keyboard or phone and call Cooper Teare, Cole’s best friend, a liar? Why would CT make something up that isn’t even a big deal? Better yet, what is so unbelievable about Cole running 22? It’s not like Cooper Teare is claiming Cole ran 19.32 into a 75mph headwind. A 22 200 isn’t even that fast. You have some nerve calling Cooper a liar.

Why don't you show us the screenshots of your conversation with Teare? Should be easy to shut up all of us.
You get to see the race itself in the doc. El G talks about it afterwards and says it’s the indication he needed to know he can get the 1500 WR.
I cannot find this doc on the internets. Can someone please help?
Sure thing. Go to YouTube. Go to the search engine filter and change the selected language to French. If you just type Hicham El Guerrouj Documentary in the search engine with the filter changed to French, it should be one of the first videos to come up on the results page. The 1:42 800m race is at about 17:23 mark.

I just posted some instructions for you to find the doc, but I just wanted to add that even though it’s in French, you can change the CC setting to English so you can read the English subtitles.

Thank you so much.
That race is folklore here. There are 15 year old threads where people argue about if it happened or not. Posting an actual vid of it is a big deal.

No problem. You’ll have a lot of fun watching it. The race footage quality isn’t great because it’s at a small venue in Morocco, but you get to watch El G tear through two laps in 1:42. Have fun!

I will try to find it.
But if you can make a thread called "Watch El G Run 1:42" and post the vid you might get Thread Of The Year!? 🤷🏼♂️
(Unless this has already been done years ago and I missed it.) 😂

Aftenposten would never delete an interview from 2022 (certainly not one with Jakob). So if you, contrary to every Norwegian Jakob fans found that interview and read it in 2022, you should easily also find it now (without any help from an editor), and give us the link. I really really wonder why you don’t…!
Out in 52.0, basically just running even splits the whole way. He could do it in training tomorrow with his brother pacing him on a bike. Zero doubts about that.
The only thing I’d quibble with is him being able to do it year-round. I think he can do that pretty much once he’s in competition mode. In base mode, not so much. February-Marchand and June-October yes.

I never said they deleted it. I said it wasn’t available in their search database on their main site. I haven’t provided the link yet because the editor has not sent it to me yet.

Jakob says he can run 1:41. He ran a 46 quarter in practice in 2022. I’m waiting for his interview with Aftenposten where he talks about this to be sent to me by the editor. I’ll provide a link when I get it.

No problem. I’ll post the transcripts here in a few minutes. I have to finish this group call I’m on right now with some clients. In the meantime feel free to message CT yourself. He’s down in Jamaica at Grand Slam. He may be distracted after losing the 5k last night in a scrub kick to Grant, but if his mood improves he’ll probably correspond with you. He always makes time for fans. He’s a nice guy.

So I’ve been a defender of El Gs ability to run under 1.43 for decades because I have heard this from more than one pro of that era including guys who were training with the group in Ifrane. What I had always heard was that it was done in a controlled TT setup using the group of 4-5 essentially pro pacemakers that El G had at his disposal.
But you’re saying it wasn’t this and it was in a race and grainy footage exists of it? I mean people have been trying to validate this for decades now - you’re saying it’s on YouTube somewhere? Uhhh, as it’s your claim and you also claim to have seen this, I think you should be the one providing a link of this.

You’re gonna be waiting a long time. He couldn’t run 46 in practice. If he was capable, he’d somehow be a massive underachiever.
