Why is this meet management so terrible? They're having "Average Joe" 200 meter heats before a mile world record attempt. Ridiculous. Nothing wrong with the 200, but you'd think the meet manager would be a little smarter. I mean, world record attempts bring a lot of attention to your meet.

wasn't a trolling attempt, i heard this personally from a source in OAC. currently they're debating the whole thing. we'll see if nuguse shows up at the start line

i heard that sage hurta-klecker had gone "rogue" with the 1000m thing, apparently she was supposed to do the 800 but for some reason decided to TT a non championship race. getting weird signals from my source

it's par for the course at typical high school meets, but should not happen when dealing with the highest level professionals.
Also, the FloTrack announcers aren't hyping up this world record attempt at all. This just seems like "your average high school meet". Not the atmosphere you'd expect for a bonafide world record attempt with wavelights. Compare that energy to Lievin...Granted, that's a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold Meeting, and this meet ranks far lower on the "meet quality" scale, but organizers and announcers should take the initiative to hype something up as big as this (i.e: a potential 3:44 mile, now far less likely to happen...)

Why were there only 3 people in each heat of the 200? No one cares about the indoor 200. Especially when there is a mile WR attempt happening later in the meet.

Fair enough. However BU is known for being fast and even more so in MD. Its a good facility for sprinting but its THE place for 800 and above indoors. Nuguse is also going for a world record so that tends to generate more interest anyway. They should have put more than 3 people in each heat because it takes up to much time otherwise.

Another thread just kicked off claiming that Dathan "Carlton" Ritz has called the attempt off, which while more than likely untrue, isn't the wildest trolling attempt ever seen here. We have two heats of the mens 300m up and those were meant to start 30min ago. This mile could end up starting 40min late which really sucks for a WR attempt. As people have said hard to believe a decision couldn't have been made an hour ago to rearrange the timetable and put these elite miles on immediately after the 200's. Not good.

probably another year realistically. next indoor season. nuguse is headed back to the airport per my sources
I think Nuguse gets it. It’s one of those things where it sounds pretty unlikely (and it’s nowhere near guaranteed) but no one will be surprised in hindsight if he runs 3:44. Just ran 3:46, likely sharper now, will have more and better pacing here, faster track, wavelight, mile records are generally softer than 1500, and that the attempt is happening suggests he’s fit. I give it a 60% chance.
