Oh wow. Two other pros in the race and she gets a win. That’s all she’s got ever capable of. A win when no one big is in the race. Not even a great time
Math's not your strong suit, is it? World lead and a PR at a stage of her career when most people had her completely written off. Good for her.
This won’t last. Wait until she’s up against real competition. Will never make any Olympic team
And out-of-nowhere 14:45 for MacKay! Has she even raced a 5000 before?
And, good 15:07 performance from Katelyn. Went for it. Sub-15 fitness not quite there yet. But fastest indoor 5000, I believe.
I’m not sure how you can spin a 15:07 as good. I’m a Tuohy fan, but c’mon, it’s closer to a disaster than it is to good at this juncture.
It's not a disaster, it was an ok performance. But just "ok" won't cut it when it comes to making the US team and she has not shown any real improvement in a few years now. She's just treading water. But, unfairly or not, a lot of people seem to have much higher expectations for her.
I think she’s benefitting from training with Valby. Heather too. Valby doesn’t half ass any workout. Hopefully, some of their speed runs off on Valby too.
It wasn’t a good result but it wasn’t bad either. It was just… okay.
She didn’t fall off as poorly as she has been doing in her recent races. She’s making progress in the right direction, just a bit surprising she isn’t further along.
But glad she’s at least putting herself out there and racing.
Hmm. 15.07 for a pro - not new anymore either - isn’t great. If she’d managed a sub-15, I think we’d all agree there would be some hope. This time is a good college time, but subpar for a pro. Tuohy needs a complete ‘do-over’. She just doesn’t look fit. A review and possible change of all of the following: Diet, altitude (why isn’t she at altitude full time), training schedule. They need to go back and rethink the entire thing. What she’s doing isn’t working.
Agree with you re: altitude. No clue why a distance pro isn’t living at altitude.

She ran 15:03 in 2023 and she runs 15:07 today at BU, the place where people go to demolish their 5000 prs. I think saying this run was ok is being very generous. Nico, her peer, just ran 12:51.
