I'm actually gonna predict no CA girl cracks the top 10.
Nice call! Sadie finished 11th so not a great race for her.
Thank you! It was a sad prediction because I'm a CA person myself. That prediction was done more on a reflection of how tough the postseason is for California relative to other states.
I do think in a perfect world if Blade and Sadie were fresh, they would've placed 2-5th. Even if they were in fresh form, I don't think they would have touched Jane today.
Boys race is going to be who can run most efficiently in the wet slop and have a strong final mile. Should be a good race -- there's 6-7 guys that could win.
It rains in CA. Much, much more than in states like Utah or Colorado. The conditions today were as impactful for many of the kids outside of CA as they were for many of the kids from CA. It’s a complete fallacy to assume automatically that they suffered more than kids from other states.

I agree that the Cali girls are better than the performed today, but between last year and this year, I feel like we have to ask ourselves: at what point are they simply being overrated?
Hedengren said in her interview that she hasn't run in a course like this before, yet obviously it didn't hinder her much. (it's a bit different from Utah to Oregon vs Cali to Oregon clearly, but I'm sure that my point stands to some degree)
Also isn't the mark of a champion someone who can run incredibly despite the conditions or circumstances?
ALL of the California girls are 0/2 on this course... Surely if they are as good as they've been said to be, at least one or two of them would've challenged for the podium either last year or this year...
Bad coaching is California has killed their chances. No California coach understand cross country like Brosnan and Soles did.
They still got Lange, the Beckman coach and a couple others but yeah they dont have the quality of the SW.

That’s a coaching mistake. Sadie said she felt bad last week in a post race interview. And the Santiago girls are being misguided terribly

Also the San Clemente coach. Two top 10 NXN finishes in 2022/2023, and made state from a brutal section this year after losing their 1-6 and their whole team being sophomores

when you live in socal and it's cold/wet at NXN you're gonna struggle for two primary reasons
1. your body has not been exposed to high 30s low 40s temps, especially with moisture. the lighter the runner is the more this weather will have an effect. pretty simple physiology.
2. runners in CA are not allowed to wear spikes during the regular season, so here they are at the national champs, biggest race for them of the year, and they are wearing shoes they haven't worn all season and running on a surface that realistically is not available for them to train on - nearly every large stretch of grass in socal is a privately owned golf course
that being said, courses like this are a huge part of why we all love XC - it's everything that track can never be
