2x threshold by itself won't help in races longer than 10k. At least not at absolute beast level of pacing.
Why not?
Doing 2x helps with shorter races. I don't think he can do the same training while putting up high miles. Other Africans got to where they're by doing more volume. They can handle the brutal pace longer than Jakob.
Boy was I disappointed for him and stayed up till 3:30 am to watch this and WTF! He looked like he was having an asthma attack. I've never watched him so unprepared for a race. He should never have done this. If he were going to run a half he should have done Valencia in December when he was in the middle of his distance running block. He embarrassed himself and I don't want to hear any more talk of 10 world records. He is a 5k track runner, one of the best in history and he should be happy with that. Now if this was just a bad race, even the greats have them, we remember joshua cheptegei crashing and burning in 2017 world champs cross country champs "" "" only to win in 2019 and break two world records on the track and we remember Letsenbet Gidey collapse and who can forget Cooper Teare . So I don't want to be too hard on Jakob, but like these other athletes especially Cheptegei, Jakob must came back bigger and stronger to erase this horrible performance!
He looked unprepared because he was 100% unprepared. This is rhe start of his off season, relax a little. Him trying a HM was great entertainment. With this attitude you'll have athletes not doubling at championships, and only running three meets per year, and that sucks.
Hope he ends every season with a HM, trail run or anything else crazy.
As a matter of curiosity, what did he achieve by this run?
I'm pretty sure he thought he could perform better. He failed in an attempt to do a good HM (sub 60?). Maybe it's some indication for him that his ambition to break any WR up to the HM is unrealistic. We will see if he ever does a HM.
An athlete has tried something new and it didn't work like hoped for - what is your problem with that?
As a matter of curiosity, what did he achieve by this run?
A big pay check, the experience of running with the HM elite and giving entertainment to hundreds of thousands of running fans. What did you achieve today?

Jakob said his threshold pace Is 21k/h. 2'52"/km 60'10" half marathon with at least 3 months of specific training . He went out at world record pace , without any specific training and After and intense track season . To me he Just have done a big mistake and I m suprised that people AROUND him dont give him a Better advice on half marathon . Maybe his father or another good coach could have give him Better advice .

It isn't a problem for me. But it did appear so for him. I doubt it was what he was hoping. An overly ambitious goal.

Entertainment to which fans? They enjoy seeing him embarrass himself? The would-be distance GOAT, whose goal is to take all the wr's to the marathon, reduced to a walk.

But I don't think he really was trying to just run the "best" half marathon time he could on that day.
He said beforehand it'd be exciting to see if he could even finish. He also acknowledged that the lead pace would be too hot for him, but that he might go with it anyway because why not.
He made it clear the entire time that this was just a "screw it, let's see what happens" mentality. In other words, there was nothing to lose. So was it really a "big mistake?"
It's just fans who put out this idea that he could run the WR.

Why is it a big mistake? What's going to be the consequences of this other than stupid people thinking running a single bad race means he won't ever be able to improve in the future?
