Are you dense? He's clearly stated that his TRAINING is focused on maximizing his shorter event success while simultaneously running the mileage and threshold training of a 5k/10k guy. It's like everyone misses the point. This is the whole premise behind his training. Imagine if Chep could also run 3:26.73. I just don't understand why so many ppl on this site just don't understand this. Lord. This, exactly, is WHY he can dominate 3k-10k. I don't know if it can ever explained anymore. Either you get it or you just never will.
Aregawi is about 5 seconds slower than Ingebrigtsen for 15000m. If they slowed down at the same rate, Ingebrigtsen would beat him by 10 second for 3000m, but it was less than 4 seconds. That trend will continue. They might be about even for 5000m, but Aregawi would have a significant edge for 10000.
It was the same thing for Centrowitz Sr. and Salazar at Pre in 1982. Centrowitz was also about 5 seconds faster than Salazar for 1500m, and at Pre in 1982, he out-kicked him to set a 5000m AR, but there is no way he could have kept up for 10000m. The other Centro ran about 13:00, but he couldn’t have run a comparable 27:00.
The fallacy in your post is that you assume that Aregawi has worked as hard in the 1500m as Jakob who has raced hundreds of it(including the ones that are made for fast time with wavelight and pacers), peaked for it specifically every single year.

That is a rather naive response. Jakob isn't a recreational runner; he takes his career very seriously. He doesn't run for enjoyment or "fun" but to win. The fun is in the winning. He is unlikely to be as successful over the 10k as he is over the 1500.

It’s also the case that the 1500m is more of a premier event compared to the 10000m. LRC cares about the 10K—but more casuals don’t. The 1500/mile has mythical appeal. Being a perennial 1500m medal threat and approaching/setting WRs will do more for your off the track career than doing the same in the 10K.
So Jakob probably does enjoy competing in the 1500 more than 5K/10K. And it’s better for his marketability.

but he also wants to be regarded as the undisputed GOAT, so he won't move up until he's got enough out of the 1500.

That goal is looking increasingly elusive. 4th.
At the moment he clearly is on the way to become the GOAT distance runner. Who is still ahead of him? Definitely Gebrselassie and Bekele. Most would say Kipchoge and El Guerrouj. Who else? Who else? Nurmi and Zatopek? Just too different to even compare. Keino, Viren, Coe? He ist just 23. If he can succeed also over 10000m and also in the HM and/or steeple, he without any doubt is the GOAT.

So he can be the GOAT while he keeps losing championship finals in his favoured event? Interesting definition.

Yes, peabrain. He is 23. He has 15 years to try other events. And he already has 1500m golds. Moron.
If Jacob went for 10K gold - could he even lose that race?
5/10 guys have a different body type compared to 15/5 runners. I don’t see a guy that is 6’1””, 165 lbs, winning a 10000m gold medal.
....
Jakob could do the 5000/10000m double next year if he started focusing on it by the end of this year but he will NOT. In today athletic scheme of things body type isn't as big of a factor as the person's TALENT and TRAINING.

Name one 1500 runner who at 23 has had better results, with one Olympic gold, two Worlds silvers, a bunch of European and Diamond League golds, never having finished lower than fourth in his senior career and the numerous fast times he's run.

None. But by the time he was 26 Morceli won 3 world championship gold medals and an olympic gold medal. But Morceli focused on just the 1500 while JI attempts the 15 and 5.

Being on track for GOAT means he hasn't actually accomplished it. He hasn't won a global championship 1500 since Tokyo. He lost the last three finals. He may lose the next three.

Name a contender for GOAT who lost three consecutive global championship finals (didn't even place in their last one) in their favoured event.
