Culture with Cantello? He was tough, erratic, brilliant, insane, a lover, an abuser. He was everything in one person. You either loved him or hated him
Kudos to Colgate for taking 4th after getting their heads beat in most years in recent memory. Only 1 senior and just 2 juniors on their PLC roster this year shows they're looking good for the future
Colgate now has 33 guys on their XC roster. 2nd largest roster in the Patriot League.
They also have 3 distance coaches and a director of operations that all appear to be full time.
I am cheering for them but it's highly unlikely that they will ever place 3rd. Navy, Army, and Boston are too strong. They will continue to improve significantly though.
Lol didn’t the same coach just coach the womens team 5 all league honors and individual champ and rookie of the year? But yeah he def sucks lmao
Lol here are the PR's of those athletes PRIOR to his arrival.
Sjoberg - 4:13, 9:16, 15:52
Szulska - 9:42, 16:34, 21:07 on a much harder course than Lafayette's
Liljegren - 9:21, 15:50, 33:15, 19:49 6k
Buettner-Cable - 10:49 steeplechase
Collins - 10:37 two mile, 4:53 one mile (10:33 and 4:51 over 3200 and 1600).
They were stacked, how could they lose? Yet they did.
This is one of the weakest years in recent memory for the Patriot League women. Only 7 ran under 17 for 5k last outdoors and 3 of them graduated. Sjoberg, Richman, Diamond and Compton are the others. Where is Prosser of BU who qualified for NCAA's last year?

Doing this much research for the PL letsrun thread to prove nothing is crazy, find a better hobby
Perhaps Prosser still has the same problem which made her go home last year - hardly the new coaches fault if that is the case. The women were 2nd without Prosser, would have won with her. Since he hasn't recruited anyone yet (all of these were Carpenter recruits) maybe you give him a full season or more before criticizing. That Liljegren raced at all, given her issues in the past year or so is interesting in itself. A healthy Prosser, Sjoberg, Liljegren would be a start to a good team, but two of them had issues predating the new coach.

Prosser just won the New Zealand National Championship in Cross Country on August 5th. So Molz inherited a healthy Prosser and a healthy Liljegren who opened with a pretty good 20:42 at Lehigh but ran much slower on what appeared to be a short course at Lafayette.
Hannah Prosser fresh from a break in her track and field and cross country scholarship at Boston University ran away with the senior women’s title over 10k
Does not-so-burnt-to-a-crisp Murphy Smith make his return to NCAAs? Nathan "get tf up here Marc" Davis make his debut? Navy (or Colgate) have a shot going as a team?
Liljegren opened at PLs, the time from Lehigh was 2023, took a 5 second search to see that. Stop bashing athletes and making assumptions about teams based on some mediocre google searches. "I'm hearing from athletes" ? yeah sure
Hey! I am for sure on here, but this is not me, I do not post anonymously! Any coaching transition is going to be challenging 3 months in, and I was stoked to see some athletes out with some injuries last year (daisy and others) back, health and racing for the terriers. Excited to bounce back and compete against them once again this indoor season. -Zach P
I've never seen a team IMPLODE as quickly as Lafayette.
DEAD LAST for the women and 8th out of 10 for the men...on their home course. Their men would have been last if not for Loyola and Holy Cross both having their top runners injured.
Just a few years ago the Lafayette men got 3rd in 2020 and the Lafayette women got 4th in 2020.
In 2021, the Lafayette men got 4th with 134 points. In 2024 they got 8th with 256 points. They've nearly DOUBLED their point score. 122 points worse on their home course.
At this rate they are cutting their program within 3 years.
I'm convinced the 2020/2021 Lafayette teams were the only ones in the last 20 years that actually exercised between races. The other teams have been so bad relative to their talent levels you had to figure they were either drinking before races or just not practicing

Navy has the firepower to qualify as a team. Georgetown is vulnerable.
Sjoberg should qualify as an individual if she has a good race.
ouch navy, that's rough. Misses ncaas by 1 point and Murphy smith doesn't qualify individually after doing so last year. Anyone know last time a mens patriot league team qualified for nationals?

Navy shouldn't have run so hard at Army v Navy (they still would've won). One of the biggest problems with every Navy running season (xc, indoor, outdoor) is that they have to peak for Army v Navy, then they have to maintain that peak through conference, regionals etc. That means in the 1-2 weeks leading up to Army v Navy they ran a big workout, then took it easy, then ran as hard as they could against Army, then tried to maintain that peak for the next month. If they had just been allowed to train relatively normally that could've been the difference
