Michael Jordan was not a naturally selfish player. He was a great teammate at University of North Carolina -Chapel Hill.
Chicago Bulls, in Jordan's rookie season were a combination of older guys beat up from injuries, guys who didn't care and hard partiers. Jordan wasn't passing the ball to those guys.
Things didn't change because of Phil Jackson, things changed for Bulls because of the addition of Scottie Pippin & Horace Grant. Since they were a couple years younger than Jordan, Jordan was able to mold them into the teammates Jordan wanted. Triangle? It's a simple scheme that works when a team has a star who draws double team coverage. It's just a pass the ball to open man offense.
