this year absolutely. but next year they only lose 2 of the 8 runners they ran today (4th and 6th on team today), return Leah Stephens and add Sadie Engelhardt. They're right back in the conversation again if Engelhardt hits the ground running or either of Michalak or Shea finds their form over the next 12 months.
Things can change. Who saw Hartman and Gapes at this level 12 months ago?
I mentioned this on the Pre-Nats thread as well regarding how NC State did.
I was impressed that NC State got 2 women in the top-10 in this race, with Grace Hartman (6th) and Hannah Gapes (8th).
Their spread as a team; however, is just far too much at 1:26 to be ANYWHERE near competitive enough to retain their National title. (ugh)….
Another interesting thing to note is that Hartman ran this course faster than Tuohy had ever done, and even under Valby’s previous course record. (She was one of six women yesterday to run under the previous course record).
I would have never guessed that Hartman would be on par with Tuohy’s past performances, let alone surpass her. VERY impressive.
Yes, things change. I agrre with you that it is just as likely that NC State drops even more.
You’re such a great motivator and optimist! How is it living a negative life? (Your negative name and your negative posts say a lot with your choice of written words).
How many of these young ladies are actually on the roster next August when the strict roster limits come into play?
I dont think they need that many to redshirt. 20 on the roster right now, i think 5 are leaving (Smith, Schulz, Quarzo, Rauber, Collins). Adding 4 puts them at 19 right now. not hard to find 2 redshirts among the incoming freshman and injured runners.
Redshirt isn't an option. They literally have to be off of the roster. No practice. No gear. No medical. Just a regular student.
they will be on the track roster numbnuts. Every schools track team uses the same medical facilities, same gyms, same everything all year. Even the fall.
Maybe. They are limited to 45. Many top track teams have 60 on the roster. Looks like NC State has only 46.
Do you honestly think runners of the caliber that NC state recruits are signing on to spend their 1st year training on their own as a regular student? When they probably have dozens of other programs interested in them?

Don’t think NC State has any shot at the title this year after Leah Stephens is out. They should be very happy with the development of Grace Hartman and Hannah Gapes so far. They need to be patient with Angelina Napoleon, Ellie Shea, and Bethany Michalak. The reasonable expectation is top 8 this year, top 3 in 25, and contending for the title in 2026 and beyond.
No. You were the one claiming that they would redshirt. But on the your new claim, there are many elite teams who have 25-30 runners on the XC roster. There will be no home for some 14:00 guys and 16:30 women. Cuts are coming.

Why are we discussing schools with 25-30 runners on the xc roster in a thread about NC State? They dont have that problem as I already said.
You really have a hard time following a logical path. You said that top runners won't go where they have to sit out. There will far fewer roster spots in total across D1resulting in elite runners being forced to sit out.

Pack won't have a roster problem. Most likely won't need cuts. If they do it will be the in-state walk ons, not recruits.
