Slo-Jo. ? Seems audacious. It makes me hope that Tuohy beats Valby on Saturday and then goes on to turn pro with someone other than Nike. It just struck me as such a weird choice to have Tuohy's rival be the face of NXN spikes. Just my opinion.
Tuohy currently has nil with adidas, whereas Valby has nil with Nike.
Glad to see Nike is actually using a college athlete's image and likeness rather than just keeping them in the stable of sponsored athletes.
I think this is the challenge - how to assess the very top who do not run to their full potential often other than in championship. Sometimes maybe in a loss. I'll go back to Kelati vs Monson in 2019. But for the other probably 99% the algorithim is probably good.

In a LACCTIC simulation, Parker Valby has a 97% chance of winning. Doris Lemngole has a 1% chance, Katelyn Tuohy a 1% chance, and Hilda Olemomoi a 1% chance. 😆

Lacctic is a representation of what we’ve seen so far. I’d say 97% sounds about right in terms of the performances this season. Of course, Tuohy could her best race this weekend, but that’s just speculation and not really a job for a computer.
I seem to remember that there was some reason why Tuohy was not at her best at Nuttycombe, but do not recall what that reason was, and therefore have no idea how much to take that performance "with a grain of salt".
I believe she and her coach came into the season with the goal of peaking later and conserving her efforts to avoid wearing out which happened late last season. So she started the season later and has tried to limit her efforts so that she peaks for nationals. Initially she was not supposed to run until the ACC championship. She said after regionals that the plan going in was not to expend too much energy. So the whole plan this XC season was to peak at nationals and save her efforts the rest of the season. We will see if they timed it right.
What are you basing this on... I mean it's certainly possible but it's not likely. I mean you did watch the race last year right... were there five or six runners in contention

It always amazes me the wacky stuff people believe in. Everyone believes their wacky thing is legit. It's also kind of like groundhog Day in that we went through the exact same thing last year with all the hyperbole about other runners beating her by huge margins

I heard Valby had a temperature of 103 at last year's NCAA XC meet. She was very sick. Also sick for the NCAA Outdoor 5000 in 2022. If she wasn't sick, she would have easily beaten Tuohy. Hate it when sickness gets in the way.
