This thread is pretty toxic. I don't know what it is about Tuohy that gets everybody so riled up. It doesn't seem like she's ever acted in any way that would warrant the ire. My personal opinion on what happened today is that she's probably been a little bit burnt since indoor where she was clearly in monstrous shape. That, combined with a REALLY strong 1500 field evened the odds. The 1500/5k double in hindsight seems like a really bad choice if she was feeling fatigued going in. If fatigue was the problem, scratching the 5k was the right coaching decision. The one thing I will say to the Tuohy haters though: She absolutely would have won that 5k if she hadn't tried to do the double. That much I pretty darn certain of.
There are very few posts on this thread that are saying anything bad about Tuohy. She’s only been gracious in victory or defeat. The thread is about not giving the proper due to the actual NCAA champion, one who ran in the front gun to tape, Parker Valby. Posting the Tuohy WOULD have won the race IF just minutes after Valby won is lame. If you watched how Tuohy has looked this weekend in her races, and still claim she would have won, is not only disrespectful, it’s just plain unjustified.
Oh, I’ve seen several nasty very personal posts directed toward KT on here. True to form for LR though sadly. Look no further than the one above this one. And the dude talking about water weight or whatever nonsense. Disgusting.

Sore loser? I said she was potentially giving up a sure thing 5000m title to try this double. And she clearly would have won if she had just concentrated on defending it. But it was not to be. That is just being realistic. For the life of me I cannot figure out why you guys are bent out of shape over that.
I love that everyone says "we don't hate Tuohy it's just the fans that are annoying" when there are posts like this on here.
You'll notice that this person seems to the have the personality of one with a below average intelligence that has never felt the touch of a woman. That would explain why he feels this defiant urge to attack someone that, in all likelihood is a much better person and athlete than he could ever hope to be.

Is it possible she is off her game? She is a great runner and maybe something is off and that is why she chose not to contest the 5000m? That is the point. I know that fresh and feeling great she can run 15:00 or so. But she was not in that form tonight. This can happen in a long collegiate season, especially with indoors. I think an indoor season often hurts collegiate runners. I have seen it happen often.

the USATF qualifiers are in 2 weeks. if she was truly injured she wouldn't have run at all. i still think she should have chosen one race, not try to double, especially on the same day and in the hot Texas heat. just a recipe for disaster.

She wouid have to be ill to be off her game to that degree. We are talking 15:30 with a 1:10 close. She ran 15:31 with a 1:07 close doubling from the 1500m at regionals. I don't think it is a matter of not feeling great. She could run those times and beat a runner she always outkicks even feeling poorly. Again as long as she was not legitimately ill.

No she wouldn’t. What do you mean by ill? There are runners who simply cannot appear to run well anymore at the end of a long season, maybe anemia, or maybe an unknown reason, but they simply have lost the ability to run close to their best. This is a complicated issue and your fanboy status will preclude you from seeing clearly.
All this is because the Touhy fans are soooooo obnoxious!!’ Maybe they will take it down a notch now!!
So say hateful things about the athlete personally just because you don’t like the fans. Tuohy does not need humble pie. You, on the other hand need help.
I’ve been watching college sports for decades and it’s a wildcard in the big games or meets. That’s why it’s exciting. Young kids living together with few rules and thousands of other crazy young people doing idiotic things all hours of the day, and athletes trying be normal social animals and learn and perform academically and trying to get perfection out of their bodies or perfectly function as a team is sort of insane. there’s been only a handful of absolutely dominant college athletes that almost always win, and it rarely happens with track and field athletes. Touhy is great, but not some generational talent like Ingebrigston some of you think she is. And it’s certainly not out of the question she’s overcooked and won’t rebound for usa’s. She had an awesome year and isn’t unbeatable, no surprise. She’s a kid. Or maybe she’ll be great at usa’s, who knows? That’s the joy of sport.
Add stupid hot weather and pressure, and amazingly good competition, and the endless distractions she has and who knows what illness etc, (maybe she’s on her period?!) and it’s a wild card.
Frankly, the Touhymania here is pretty creepy and I don’t understand it.
