Okay, even if that is Parker Valby’s actual tik-tok, do you seriously think that is a recent video? Instead, maybe she drug up an old video and put that caption on it?
I didn’t want to bring up what serious problem is coming, which is the coming AI ability to fabricate false, but realistic looking videos.
Why are you so insistent in your false assumption that it’s not a recent (real) video? It’s weird. She does not look younger than she normally does now; in fact she looks much different than she ever did in high school. And then when your initial conjecture is being refuted, you suggest that it could be a deepfake video made with AI? Why would anyone deepfake that particular video, and how would they post it to Valby’s actual instagram? You obviously know nothing about TikTok or youth social media culture except what you hear on network news, so why are you presuming to be the only one with the answers?
The 5k between Tuohy and Valby in Jacksonville may not happen for two reasons.
1) Tuohy may be going after the 1500 and having to do preliminaries in that event makes it unlikely that she will be entered in the 5000.
2) Valby is not 100% healthy after SEC. Since it’s 12 days before the 5000, maybe she will be able to go.
I enjoy watching both of them compete. I don’t understand the fanaticism on here about either of these exceptional athletes. I am a fan of all NC State athletics so I root for Tuohy for that reason. I don’t say disparaging things about Valby. I respect her ability tremendously. Had she held on to win against Tuohy in cross country, the Wolfpack would still be NCAA Champions! Which is the most important factor for me as a fan.My daughter has a masters from NC State and my son in law has his undergraduate degree from Florida. I am sure it won’t happen, but I would love to see less condescending comments on here about either athlete.

Here, here! Same boat as an NCSU graduate and therefore fan of my alma mater first; but, I can also celebrate exceptional athletic performances from student-athletes at other schools -- even UNC-CH and Duke -- both nearby rivals and that is a huge stretch for some of my NCSU friends. Not sure why it is so hard for some folks to just recognize and celebrate greatness regardless of the individual or the name on the front of the jersey the person is wearing.

If the do 'race', clearly Valby will just try to 'survive and advance' and continue to heal. There is no benefit in 5000 to a fast regional time.
Simone Plourde of Utah could upset the supposed two-woman race. 2nd at Drake 1500 behind Hiltz, and won Pac-12 from the front. Not sure whether she'll do 1500 or 5000, but she ran 15:20 at Bryan Clay, so is a threat in both events.

Looking at Plourde's recent results in 1500 and 5000 I would say she is likely to battle Chelangat for the 5000 win (assuming KT only runs the 1500).

You don't think Plourde has a better chance in the 1500m? I think that she is more likely to podium, if not win that event.
In the 5k she may have Valby, Kemboi, Olemomoi, Chelangat and others.

I think KT is a lock for the win in whatever event she runs. Plourde's recent 1500 time tells me she has best chance to win, at 5000.
At this point there's no reason not to pick KT as a lock for whatever event she chooses. Unless she's injured, there's pretty much nobody who can beat her in a heads up races.

Although Tuohy is most likely the favorite, there is certainly chance for an upset, particularly in the 1500m. Her season best time is less than second from Appleton and Thornton-Bott, and others like Plourde are rapidly improving.
The rules generally favor lapped runners' staying on the pole, and I think it's actually best for safety and a fair race.
As a matter of courtesy (and, again, safety), I think runners who know they're going to be lapped should not run side-by-side; but otherwise, best that they hug the inside.
The way this worked “in the old days,” meaning pre-1992ish is that you got pulled from the track prior to being lapped.
I’ll never forget, as a Frosh in a conference with the eventual indoor 5k champ and outdoor 10k champ, feeling like I’d won because I avoided getting the hook.
There’s no point in lapped runners with no chance to score being allowed to stay in. It’s dangerous and humiliating while serving as an impediment to the top athletes.
I think I was really close to "last place" at our conference meet once because nearly everyone behind me was lapped by the winner and pulled from the track. It's weird when you are bottom 3 or so of the finishers but have like 15 DNFs in the results too. This was during the years when hurting people's feelings wasn't a factor, everyone manned up and knew the deal ahead of time in the race and if you ran like crap, you wouldn't get a result.
is this a joke? Not a super fan for either - think both are incredible athletes but Katelyn Tuohy is just miles ahead of Parker Valby - time and ability wise. That is stating the facts.
Not this season in the 1500m. Granted Wake Forest was not Tuohy's best race, but Thonton-Bott just ran 4:08.33 at On Track Fest, which is not on tffrs. Tuohy's SB so far is 4:08.29.
Tuohy ran 4:06~ several times indoors, we just haven't seen it this outdoor season yet. Maybe at regionals .
