Kelsey Chmiel from the raleigh relays would have been 100m back of 10th place in this race. What a race by all of these women.
These sort of comparisons never make sense. Two different races with different conditions and different competition. Raleigh last weekend, IIRC, was a lot warmer.

Hmm, I wonder if they’re not currently in a very hard training block. None of them are 10k specialists and all negative split@ 33mins approx. If I was Dave Smith, I’d be pretty pleased with that.

Don't be shocked by this, but it's probably as simple as they were just trying to get qualifiers. Doesn't mean they have to run 10k at regional, but now they have the option.

Favorite? Historically, she has been inconsistent. 5th in indoor 5k even w/ altitude advantage (that's also her best ever NCAA result). Ncaas this outdoor are in tx, so different weather. Chelangat, Chmiel, Olemomoi are proven in champ races. We will see.

There will be very different conditions in Austin in June. Too early to tell.

Well, I said 'a' favorite not 'the'. Probably should have said contender.
But, with her recent 15:20 this shows that was not a fluke. The way she ran this race can probably go even faster. According to her interview, she decided last minute to enter the 10k and wasn't doing special training for it. I just think she is on a whole new level this year.
Dillon Powell's 13:30 showing was strong considering the competition. The future Buff transfer kicking it against the best in D1. It will be interesting to see the impact he makes next year
