Willis looked easy. She looks like she was born to control 800s. I remember when I critiqued Barrett’s tactics in a BU race with Rose and Gororrian (sp), and somebody went nuts on me. But you saw today she’s got to run the race a whole lot smarter.
Barrett was terrible but also was only 7th at SECs. I'd love to know what's up, but unfortunately the NCAA has stopped sending the women through the mixed zone so we didn't get a chance to talk to her.
AR has 6 ladies in the 400 of which 5 are in 2 of the 4 heats. Wilson of AR and Adeleke of TX are both in heat 4. All based on qualifying times I know but some interesting developments. Willis avoids Whitaker and Rose in her 800 heat. "1A" and "1B" (Tuohy and Dudek) start next to heat other in 5000. Natalie Cook is in the 5000 for those who wondered her status.
Adeleke has the second fastest all time (50.33) for US women. Texas has a bevy of other top sprinters as well.
Julien Alfred of Texas just ran 6.96 in the 60 M prelims to break her 60 M CR of 6.97 that she ran at Big 12 Championships. Do you guys think she'll run under or above 6.96 during the 60 M finals tomorrow?
Only 2 American women all time faster are Gail Devers and Marion Jones (both 6.95).
