Arguably, no one’s ever seen this level of talent. B4 anyone argues how much faster the Africans and some others are…don’t bother, we’ve seen it before. For now, KT is in a unique class of her own, similar to her HS career…
Several runners have already run faster than Tuohy's HS times, like Cook, Hutchins, and Wiley just in the last three years. Cain was much more accomplished in HS and Mark Decker was FAR more accomplished. We have seen her talent before and even better. Amy Skieresz was 2nd, 1st, 2nd, and 2nd at NCAA Cross. Kipyego won three NCAA XC titles and 9 total titles. Favor Hamilton also won 9. Just yesterday Wiley ran faster than Tuohy ever ran as a freshman outdoors and she did it indoors. Tuohy is an immense talent but don't act like her talent has "never been seen."
As for Henes qualifying for the Trials, etc. Yes, she had a great career and is a great coach. Her experiences definitely benefit Tuohy's potential Olympic future. But that was not what was stated by the poster. He made a comment that NC State is "experienced at putting people on the Olympic Teams." I sincerely think Joan was the last NC State runner to make it. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
I don’t recall Cook, Hutchins or Wiley either beating Tuohy or her record times in the NCAA’s…and Cain’s record, though impressive, was not better than KT’s. In fact, Katelyn downed several of Cain’s records. I don’t recall anyone match Tuohy’s Gatorade athlete of the year honors. Better do your homework. As far as Henes’ ability to coach Tuohy for the next season or two and prep her for Olympic trials please name others who would be superior in your opinion.

Wiley - 4:32.15 mile; Tuohy's freshman best 4:32.73 (outdoor 1500 converted to mile)
Cook - 7th at NCAA XC as freshman in 19:46.3; Tuohy 24th as a freshman in 20:41.3 on the same OK State course

That is great but not sure what it means. As far as we know Wiley and Cook have been healthy since hs while Tuohy and Hutchins were not. Cook has run 5000 at a faster pace than Tuohy could run 3000 as a fr. So?

At that March 2021 race in Stillwater, Tuohy was still 18 years old (3 days away from turning 19). And she was still recovering from knee surgery the summer before, and had only gotten back to training a few months prior to the NCAA XC Championship race, and was still "lacking the base" for that race as she has said in interviews. In the November 2021 race in Tallahassee, Tuohy fell in the race, and was also running all of that XC season with a minor nagging injury.
In the November 2022 race in Stillwater, Cook was 19, and about 5 weeks away from turning 20 years old....so almost a full year older than Tuohy when she ran at Stillwater in March 2021.

Tuohy ran 4:33 as a Sophomore in HS and was recovering from knee surgery her freshman year in college, essentially no difference in time. Cook has has not beaten her in any race where they both ran against each other…your arguments are at best weak and show an anti-Tuohy bias pretty consistently. If Katelyn was anything but humble I would not cite her accomplishments here but her last 12 months have been extraordinary. Once Wiley, Cook and Hutchins start beating her in head to head competition I will acknowledge their greatness as well. The fact remains that Katelyn has been on another level lately and since your unwilling or unable to acknowledge it there’s nothing left to say.

Yeah, the bottom line is that Tuohy was recovering from injury and getting back to form throughout most of the first 1.5 years she was in college. It wasn't really until spring of 2022 that she got into really good form, and started looking like the real Tuohy.
If Cook wins the 5k outdoors in a couple months in Spring 2023 and the individual XC Championship in fall of 2023, then we can compare her to Tuohy. Even if Cook did both of those things, she would still be doing it at about 2.5 months older than Tuohy did when she won both of those titles....due to the fact that Cook is quite old for her class.
No Katelyn, don't leave just yet! Don't you want a 3-peat in XC like in high school?
It sounds like she is talking about getting an indoors title? Maybe she is not gonna run indoors next year
My guess is that she’s planning on one more XC season, graduating and turning pro at the end of the season…when she can devote spring of ‘24 preparing for Olympic trials.
The way I took her words in that clip was to mean that "this" (indoors) was the last of the three seasons (cross country, indoor, and outdoor) that she hadn't yet won an NCAA title ("gotten one"). I think she means she'll have a trifecta of titles across fall, winter, and spring if she can win a title at indoor NCAA nationals this year, not necessarily that she won't be competing in any more seasons after this year.
It is crazy you got so many upvotes when your interpretation is obviously incorrect. She was talking specifically about getting an indoor title, and then let it slip that this is the last season to try.
Tuohy will definitely run next year, but 2024 is likely undetermined yet.
Maybe she will runn cross-country, but not Indoors according to that clip, in which she says the current Indoors is her last chance to try for an Indoor individual title.
