Korir really had us fooled all season. That 44.8 400m at the trials should've been the first indication he still had it. Kinyamal panicked and kicked too soon. Wanyonyi was finishing fast and almost caught Arop for bronze.
Korir will win any 800m race so long as he is within striking distance with 120m to go. His foot speed is just simply unmatched in most of these races. Give me an 800m runner with natural speed and can run a open 400m in 44 seconds like Korir can do all day over an 800m runner who can run a 3:30 1500m.
Korir went straight to the inside, hugged the rail and was content to sit in the back of the pack. He has the best kick in the field so he was smart to conserve as much energy as possible til the last 100m.
