You don't have to be approaching world records to be a successful international runner
Look at the times for the 1500 m for the women so far in the world championships and you'll see that tuohy isn't that far off... If she keeps progressing in a few years she'll definitely be running low 4s and maybe sub 4
To qualify through the first couple of heats you only needed to be running like 4: 08 and then 404 to make it to the finals
And in the 5K usually only have to run about 15 minutes even maybe 1505 to make the finals
So to just throw up the world record time and then say anyone who's not within 10 or 20 or even 30 seconds of that isn't a potential world-class runner really isn't accurate
It's more about peaking at the right time and being able to put up several fast times in a row if you have to run several heats
Anyway Mo Farah is the greatest track distance runner ever and he was like 15 and 30 seconds off world record pace at his best to distances so it's more about being able to finish fast
He may have been the fastest 8th grader, but he is far from being the fastest freshman
Course record - broken
Fastest 8th grader in the nation , now not the fastest in his class on the team

How does he rank nationally?
Not even the best 9th grader on his team. If it wasn't for his last name nobody would care about the kid. Leave the poor kid alone and let him enjoy himself
