Tom’s river is the worst is awful, almost as bad as Jersey city. The air in both makes you cough afterwords and is so dry. Tom’s river is just iconic because all the other venues don’t hold many meets.
Washington: The Podium in Spokane is 1000% better than Dempsey. You guys realize that is literally a practice football facility with a few jogging lanes around it? It’s embarrassing that meets are hosted there at all
Oregon: Portland’s basketball arena track?
Idaho: Now that Boise got rid of theirs, Holt Arena at Idaho State Univ. I believe it’s up for about half the year. Plus something like 15,000 seats.
Montana: Only one I know of is at Montana St which is fast despite being flat 200m
Wyoming: No idea. Probably at a high school
Utah: Olympic Ice Oval unless you’re a field event athlete. BYU shouldn’t be hosting on that track in a hallway.
Nevada: n/a
California: n/a
Arizona: NAU’s Skydome. Finally a 300m track with proper seating. If only they’d remove the basketball floor in the middle.
Colorado: Good question. Air Force? CU?
New Mexico: Albuquerque convention center, duh
Washington : I don’t think that UW hosting meets at Dempsey is embarrassing at all. Even if it’s a practice indoor facility. It’s had some fast times run on it this year, is 300m flat and doesn’t hold any spectators (which I think why you said it’s embarrassing cuz it’s not a proper venue in that regard) but does the job. I Would love to have it at my school.
Wyoming : Also University if Wyoming has an indoor track facility. Hager-LeBar but it’s only 160m
BYU : Appalachian State also hosts their indoor meets in a hallway 😂😂😭
Oregon : has a proposed indoor track and field facility similar to Spokane being proposed in Springfield Oregon so maybe that one would be nice?
BU has the fastest track in Massachusetts but is it the nicest? Depends on perspective, I think the Wellesley's Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse indoor track is awesome with great seating and sight lines. The whole building is gorgeous.
Johnson Athletic Center at MIT is old but has good bones and is six lanes. It will likely be renovated in the next couple of years and may give BU a run for its money depending on how much they invest and if they decide to make it state of the art like the Podium.
I know this comment is a year old but... Wellesley nicer than BU? Are you on crack? Wellesley is a four lane flat track with a single pathetic stand of folding bleachers on the infield. And Johnson Athletic Center does not have "good bones", it's three stories up in a windowless attic with no spectator seating when the track is in use. Don't know where you heard about renovation plans but there's no room to expand in there, the track goes almost right up to the exterior walls. Weird that you would mention those tracks and not the three other banked tracks in Boston. New Balance could arguably give BU a run for the money if you value a really nice, large facility over a fast track.
For Maine, UMaine's recently renovated banked 193m track > Colby's new flat 200m track. I would gladly deal with figuring out where to take splits if it means not having my ankles wrecked by a flat track.
People seem to have forgotten that New Hampshire has a third indoor track, UNH's oddball track. It's 160 or 180 meters, has a very slight bank, and it's the only track I know of where the two halves are in two different buildings!
I am almost positive that there are no indoor tracks in Georgia. I live here and every time someone suggests an indoor meet for athletes (Junior Olympic level through college) the only ones I hear mentioned are out of state. The Crossplex (Birmingham) or Clemson seem to be the closest options. Somebody from Georgia correct me if I am wrong.
I haven't had the pleasure of seeing that one, but as an honorable mention, I would like to shout out the track at Western Colorado University. Highest indoor collegiate track in the world, residing within an amazing overall recreation facility.
Working on a map of every indoor track in the US. Currently have ~15 states and doing Wisconsin now. Any help on tracks I've missed so far. I am mostly not counting little tracks at YMCAs but practice tracks (like UConn or Georgetown) do count. Also counting high school tracks. Any tracks that I have missed would be very helpful.
