Both Shelby and Shacarri had the right to appeal the decision and defend themselves. Kamila should have that right too.
She has that right.
Well, yes. The CAS ruling confirmed that. But the whole point for her public lynching was that the CAS should not have granted her that right. The single positive test result should have banished her from the Olympics regardless of any appeal or defense that she might have. That was their position. I think that was grossly hypocritical and grossly unjust.
She only learned about the test results on February 7 and filed her appeal one day later, while she was in China. It's understandable that a 15-year old girl does not carry her grandfather's medication records with her as she travels. So, the WADA/ISU/IOC is being more than a little disingenuous when raised that issue.
However, she will eventually have to document this if she wants to be cleared.
But the respondents were able to provide a video showing the Athlete’s grandfather with a package of “Trimetazidine MV” in his car. (23). Why didn't they video the prescription as well? You would thing that one of the twelve lawyers representing the respondents would have though of that.
And, it's incredible, on social media, how people who would otherwise consider themselves kind and caring, looking out for the downtrodden, are condemning her with no knowledge at all of how this all works.

Because he was in his car! It was obviously a rush rush situation and he did not have his prescription paperwork with him at that moment. I take medications too. I don't bring the prescriptions with me at all times.

They said that overriding legal principles over road Wada Code.
Holy sh!t you can't be serious? Today's news cycle?........how about Russia is banned from the Olympics for state sponsored doping. How about Putin kills or jails political rivals and dissidents. If you're gay in Russia, you go to jail. Russia is about to waltz into Ukraine for doing nothing, and the world will let him. But you keep thinking that.
He was not defending Russia. He was just saying it was wrong for me the media to pile all their hatred for Russia on a defenseless 15-year old girl. And he's right. There are lots of problems with the doping theory that have to be answered. The CAS was right to acknowledge those problems and hold off on banishing Kamila from the Olympics.
Agreed NBC media coverage continued with the message she should not be skating. They never once explained the nuances of the CAS decision. My question is why? That would be actual journalism.

You find it "incredible"? I find it totally predictable. There are many, many "kind and caring" people who are always looking for things to be outraged about. And other people's failure or misfortune make them satisfied, whether they realize or not. It's very common human nature.

You expect actual journalism from a network TV? They are all about $$$.
They anointed Kamila as the chosen one, took her down as the evil Russian, and then tried to win sympathy with their "poor Kamila, the victim of villains." It's all for the ratings. And if she comes back, they will sell it as a redemption story. And many people are totally happy to go along with it. After all, it doesn't affect them one way or another.

Everyone knows that NBC makes more money when ratings go up, but what most people don't know is that sports announcers make more money as well. They all have performance incentives in their contracts. There's no doubt Tara Lipinski and Johnny Wierd were fully aware of that when they anointed a 15-year old as the best ever on day one, and then crucified her a few days later. Those two are the most despicable players in this whole drama.
Think you kind of lose your jumps if you take off more than 4 days. And Worlds is in a month. Chop, chop!
I feel bad for her. People thought she looked terrified because of this whole ordeal, but I saw a video of her when she was 11 and she looked like that then.
The sample was from December. The results should have been available well before the start of the Olympics.
No Russian athletes should be at the Olympics. Russia was banned from competing and it is a farce that the athletes are allowed to compete under the ROC banner.

That's one of the few things that everyone agrees on, including the Russians.
If the lab test been done on time, the B sample could have been tested, and whatever other protests/appeals could have done before the Olympics started. And if she was banned, the Russians would have simply replaced her with another female skater and gotten the team gold medal. Now everyone on the Russian team might get no medals at all.
That slow lab in Sweden caused all sorts of problems.

Interesting that Wada blamed the Russians for the delay. What a mess.
WADA broke every procedural rule. If this were a criminal case, it would be dismissed. It’s so disturbing how ugly and political WADA has become. They are ruining sports. Corruption and politics are in every area of our lives, even preschool. Where are the good decent people?
