Trudeau is using powers given to him by the Emergencies Act 1988, this is not something made up suddenly by a dictator. If you don't like the powers, blame Canadian lawmakers at the time it was introduced (they were conservatives).
The only other peacetime use of similar powers was when Justin's father Pierre declared an emergency in response to the killing of Quebec's deputy premier in 1970 by militant separatist FLQ, who considered him a traitor. The police were given increased powers to find and detain suspected members of the group.
Other countries also have state of emergency powers. Hong Kong in response to disorder over the last few years, France after the 2005 riots, Kazakhstan is still in a state of emergency. Several state governors used emergency powers to enforce curfews during BLM in 2020. Far from being unusual, it's rare for a government not to have provisions for a crisis.
It is a peaceful protest that the leftist media sensationalized to construe it as a riot to "justify" the excessive and unnecessary force. The liberals feel their egregious, communistic agenda threatened. Period.
The opposite happened in the summer of 2020 blm "protests" with numerous deaths and billions in damages.
But when BLM drew attention to police violence and demanded accountability, there was a groundswell of opponents. There were thin blue line flags at counter protests and Trump rallies. 'Defund the Police' as a slogan became caricatured and derided. Some people actually argued more police and more funding was better, not less. All mostly from the same people who are supportive of the truckers.
And now the police are freezing their bank accounts and dragging people out of protests. Turns out state power can also be used on you too.

Give them an inch, theyll try to take a mile. They will isolate a certain groups who are a threat to the governments oppression and attempt to construe them as the bad guy in some capacity. Theyll use the media to accomplish this too. Makes sense since the leftist media in Canada carefully constructed a narrative against the convoy using deceptive images, videos, quotes which did not reflect the borader sum of the ordeal. The institution is the enemy, not your friend. They try to distract and deceive people with "problems" and label certain groups as threats because if everyone got along, we'd probably all revel against these corrupt governments. It's time to wake up.
