Yes, I would tell her to ignore them and remind her that the "sticks and stones" adage is worth thinking about. I'm not sure how that is "cowardly." One could punch the guys out, but as brave and non-cowardly as that option may appear to you, it is likely to significantly increase the possibility of a bad outcome in the long run. Altercations lead to incarcerations.

Not sure what your comment on common decency has to do with what I posted. I haven't advocated that anyone should not be commonly decent. I just said the "sticks and stones" adage we have all heard of remains a good one. You should try it next time someone hurts your feelings or offends your sensibilities, Herr Macho.

Wife and daughter are doing fine, past, present and future. They are savvy and tough. Other female relatives and female friends are probably doing fine too.

No, you're not creepy as hell. No one would ever think you score high on the creep factor. I mean, just look at you. There's nothing wrong with you. You are perfectly normal. So don't listen to those people at work. They are just jealous.

OP -- as uncomfortable as it is, the only way to effectively handle these situations is to try to tackle it head on. & whatever to some extent of the boys will be boys stuff being said. I don't agree with that (phrase & mindset is garbage) but the issue here is that these types of things shouldn't be said to women in public. They're hearing these things. It creates an unsafe space. That is a problem. So when the comment is said, another guy has to check the comment: "I'm here to run." "I don't appreciate that kind of comment." "How would that person feel if they heard you?" "C'mon man enough of that how would you feel if someone said that about your daughter?"

Interrupting the comment & doing so in a nonthreatening way is probably enough to stop it from happening again. Doubt the guy gets upset. Probably just isn't thinking.

Dude I already stated in the thread that it was inappropriate comments in the context of having others around. You ignored that fact. Stop with the misperceptions. Not everyone is the same but a litany of people, men and women, engage in behind the back gossip which is disturbing. Again that's an unfortunate folly of human nature but bites extremely common.

If OP was a real man, he would have said something to these innapropriate fellows. But he didnt. Because he made this up. I guess he felt better pretending to be a white knight on LRC.
