You've made a good point. Many states are seemingly OK with tons of their citizens dying of COVID and thus do little to prevent it.

Take Florida. They had minimal deaths through the first 2/3 waves of COVID compared to other states of a similar size and age distribution. However, despite this year+ head start the politicans and "experts" in Florida have done very little to encourage smart behaviors and mitigate the risk of COVID. Thus, Florida experienced a MASSIVE Delta wave and is now 3rd in total deaths.

Some 'experts' are simply not experts and are, in fact, murderous morons.

Florida had a year+ head start on the whole COVID thing and still threw away tens of thousands of lives. Still, they have fanboys crying like they did a good job. I'd rather have lived in Florida than in Maskachusetts for the last year. Our outcomes are virtually identical, yet people in Florida have been having a whole hell of a lot more fun and freedom. I was a solid D voter for decades, but I'd crawl over broken glass to vote for DeSantis for POTUS.

At least some of us would probably agree that we wouldn't have to wear masks for as long if people got the vaccine, but those guys don't seem to budge so we might just be here for awhile. Next few elections are gonna be all about Covid yeehaw

Sure, the waiters get exposed, but only to 10-20% of the total guests depending on how many servers there are.

This is completely wrong.

1. The host/ hostess is not stationary. He/ she does not stand in one spot the whole time and moves around the restaurant quite a bit. In other words near all the unmasked people eating and drinking!

2. It has now been well known for countless months that the virus is Airborne and spreads easily in indoor settings. Once the patrons take off their masks and sit there for 2 hours eating and drinking they will expose most in the restaurant to covid. [ unless it is some massive establishment]. Yes the 10-second walk to the table does virtually nothing to change that equation. Yes, this is a rather pointless exercise.

So, yes, it's pretty stupid. I went to a coffee shop and forgot my mask. I opened the door and asked [ the counter was 5 feet from door]if I could just tell them my order and then run in and grab it and drink it outside as I was planning to anyway. They said "no", I needed a mask to make my order. BUT.....[ and this became apparent as I looked around], after I received my order I could take my mask off and sit there drinking and eating and working on my computer for 4 hours if I chose!

Absurd.

But those trying to blame liberals and "the government!" for this are off base, because most of the places I have seen this it is the restsurant's rule, not a city or state ordinance. They make the rule to pretend they're doing something and make some customers or staff somehow feel safer while not actually doing anything. Trying to have it both ways.

To those saying " but why not do it if it is so easy to do?" I willl do it if i have to, but..

I stayed out of all restaurants/bars until recently. now that I'm triple vaxed I've gone into a few. Before, i ate/drank outside or got take out. If i went inside to get take my out order, I KEPT MY MASK ON THE ENTIRE SHORT TIME I WAS IN THERE.

But yes, having everyone wearing it for 10 seconds and then taking it off for 2 hours inside, pure stupidity.

Vaccines have been out for a while. At this point people will eventually just get the virus and get resistance that way. Deaths are relatively low and most everything is back to normal. No masks required anywhere near me since the cdc announced the first time that vaccinated people didnt have to wear them. Anyone with half a brain would realize that nothing has changed since then in terms of risk to the vaccinated people. Thise who are comlaining about masks just need to stop wearing them. I have never had anyone say anything to me about it. Besides the more people that arent masked, the more people will be willing to unmask and end this charade. Those who are unvacvinated (and i know many) have either all had covid or do not care. It is worth reiterating that this illness really only affects older individuals with 95% of all deaths coming from people over 65. Everyone i know over 65 has been vaccinated or already had covid.

People can make their own decisions about masking. No one working in the service industry is actually concerned about their health at this point. So many companies are hiring low skill jobs that anyone working in the service industry could easily go work in a manufacturing plant somewhere for more money if they were concerned.

But if that's the worst thing someone has to put up with, s/he probably has an okay life.

"Low enough" has been defined in many places. Both states that I have lived in during the pandemic have had phases in accordance to case counts and deaths. The state that I currently live in recently lifted indoor masking mandates because our case count was low enough.
