If alcohol is such a problem for some people, why do they go back to the bar? They know it's bad for them, they know it's killing them. They can just not drink. Not that hard, right?

I don't completely disagree with your comments regarding how she was apparently trained. I'm not one who sees as much of the "victim" of Cain being portrayed here that isn't at least partially and, in my view in some ways, wholly self inflicted if self includes her parents.
As I stated in a separate post, the exploration of that aspect by the defense may be more than she wants to bear.
As with most lawsuits, I expect there to be a settlement of some sort with no details released which everyone will assume is a massive win for she but may not be in actuality.
Rooting for Nike and Alberto to win this frivolous lawsuit! This is clearly a case of the greedy failed child phenom runner trying to shakedown a major shoe company and disgraced coach. Mary Cain needs only to look in the mirror to see who is at fault for her disappointing running career!

Tens of millions of Americans use recreational drugs even though they know they are bad for them. They are not addicted, they just choose to do it because the feeling outweighs the negative consequences. Cain wanted to train with Salazar for the same reason. She knew he was tough to deal with but that he was the best coach out there. She wanted to go back for the same reason. Comparing that to an addiction is like saying I am addicted to work. I don't like my job but the pay makes the tradeoff worth it.

Ok let me make this simple for all you boring fragile armchair coaching men.
He didn’t just casually tell her to watch her weight. He humiliated her in public about gaining five pounds because she ate bacon and eggs with a pre-race meal. He set an arbitrary number of 114 pounds (which has no basis in reality or performance) and wouldn’t let her go to Europe or compete because she hadn’t hit it. He gave her birth control and prescription drugs—illegal acts—to lose weight. Stop reframing this as just a tough guy. He was a creep.
She didn’t just “get injured” she lost her period for years and developed REDS which led to five broken bones. That was from his pointless pressure and fixation on her weight, NOT her performance. Because I emphasize, she was running well when the weight obsession started.
As another poster mentioned, her claims of abuse were widely corroborated by several adult NOP members including lambie, begley, goucher, levins, areson, and Steve magness too.
Now whether this case will win or not, fine that’s up for debate. But don’t try to paint this banned coach as just a tough guy getting bullied by woke sjws.

The details make this case a slam dunk for Nike. Salazar never put a finger on her and can simply state that she was put through the same training regime that thousands of our professional female athletes have gone through. The story of Mary Cain is rather tragic. Far too young to be coached at the level she was coached at. Salazar should’ve recognized this earlier, but the fact that he didn’t doesn’t make him criminally liable.
I feel sorry for Cain, she attempted a comeback but it’s likely too late for her. This feels like a cash grab, and will be looked at as one by people who are familiar with the situation.

So anything goes? How about 200mpw or 10 X 1600 interval workouts? A guy like you will probably never be selected for a jury. The word "reasonable" is what our legal system is based upon.

After puberty she gained weight and grew breasts. Have never seen an elite runner with such chest. Blaim the genetics, not Salazar.

The point I was trying to make is that abuse victims don't have to act rational, and in fact, often act in irrational ways. Your speculation/defense that Cain wasn't abused because she went back to Salazar can't be viewed as the exhaustive "gotchya" that you think it is.
She got stress fractures from training at a weight too much for elite level training.
