Ugh.
"In the lawsuit filed Monday in Multnomah County Circuit Court, Cain alleges Salazar on several occasions required her to get on a scale in front of other people and would then criticize her."
If the award for this is $20m, I'll gladly step on a scale and get told I'm fat.
she's every bit as toxic as AlSal. just in different ways.
very self absorbed.
i won't root against her, but i no longer wish her success. moving on.

I'd say odds are she wins the lawsuit, because of the situation and various factors, especially if the judge is sympathetic.
I hope Nike leaves running. It's just constant bad press and how can you be competitive if you can't tell a runner they are overweight? Fat people don't win races.
It likely doesn't go to court and gets settled for significantly less, but still a lot of money.
Wow, I dislike Mary Cain even more now. She just shows how immature and self righteous she is when she realizes she has no real elite athletic talent when others around her kept maturing
Frivolous lawsuit. It's a shame that her parents chose to put her with Al Sal, but it wasn't criminal. Truth is she was emotionally too young to be a professional athlete, and that falls on her parents.
I think he got this wrong:
"The court reduced the duration of his ban from four to two years."
Nike will settle for an undisclosed amount. They will get so much negative PR after the allegations of them ignoring her physical and mental health that they’ll look like a giant bully in court. Especially after all the bad PR with Alyson and the current shift (which I believe to somewhat be a positive) in the way women athletes are revered and put on a pedestal.
The details make this case a slam dunk for Nike. Salazar never put a finger on her and can simply state that she was put through the same training regime that thousands of our professional female athletes have gone through. Sure it’s a bad look that he cared so much about her weight, but he can point towards sports-based scientific reasoning for her weight being perfected for the benefit of running, which is the whole point of her being coached by him.
The story of Mary Cain is rather tragic. Far too young to be coached at the level she was coached at. Salazar should’ve recognized this earlier, but the fact that he didn’t doesn’t make him criminally liable.
I feel sorry for Cain, she attempted a comeback but it’s likely too late for her. This feels like a cash grab, and will be looked at as one by people who are familiar with the situation.

I agree. I think the odds are 99% this is a bit of a money grab and she will settle. I'll respect her A LOT more if she takes it all the way to court.
Plus I want it to go to court as then we'll likely learn how much money she made from Nike.
I do find it odd the lawsuit says, "“He prevented Cain from consulting with and relying on her parents, particularly her father, who is a doctor."
What? She's was a legal adult making multiple hundreds of thousands per year.
I was supposed to be an elite javelin thrower. My state, as is the case with most states did not have javelin throw as a standard high school event. I chose to run as my second choice. My mom cooked me a special diet so I would stay lean in hs. I got to college, ate the prison slop in chow hall and got chubby. Head XC coach didn't ridicule me in front of team. He called me into his office with exercise physiologist. Physiologist measured my body fat and put me on a special diet. If my college coach had the wisdom to quietly pull me aside, why couldn't Al Sal have done the same?

Is she even competing now? Biggest Disappointment ever, was supposed to break World Records and Win Multiple Golds, Athing Mu who has actually produced and won The Olympics her first year out of High School never got nearly the Press Cain did. Athing Mu is doing what Cain was expected to do in multiple events.
She has not raced since February 2020

The most exercise Mary Cain gets these days is when she climbs the ladder to get on her high horse. The 280 lb hobby joggers at the Boston Marathon today have done more running than her all year.
