Talking of "getting out of control" and "overstepping boundaries", does inciting an insurrection count?

The 7-week lockdown in New Zealand early last year wasn't "imposed" on New Zealanders; it was seen by most New Zealanders as necessary and good leadership by their government. The Labour government was rewarded with an unprecedented majority in the general election later in the year.

Currently, the country is not in a lockdown. Temporary limits on gatherings of up to a 100 people (and only in the capital) are not a lockdown.

Unlike Americans, New Zealanders value their lives over the "freedom" to ignore a pandemic.

Do you realize (obviously you don't) that millions of Americans share your views?

Why are you so invested in insulting 350 million people?

Sadly, if what I say isn't correct about the US it wouldn't be the public health disaster that it is.

Absolutely. But this proves my point.

Americans are simply not going to be locked down by their government. We can look at the January 6th insurrection, an entire summer of BLM protests/riots and the flagrant ignoring of the lockdown orders by literally millions of Americans. I'm not American but I do live in the states-they simply look at individual freedom different than Kiwis, Europeans, Asians, etc.

Now, we can also get into the fact that the various government entities that created the lockdown orders in America simply didn't have the political will to enforce the orders they created. Regardless of what you think about the BLM protests the fact that dozens upon dozens of politicians and officials joined the tightly packed BLM marches sometimes days after creating lockdown or socially distancing orders is laughable and it undercut their own arguments. In many states business orders just call the bluffs of their governments and reopened, individuals packed the streets and holiday parties went on as usual. I mean I went to three weddings this past year in Indiana, Colorado and Oklahoma--none were "COVID safe".

The main misunderstanding here is that in the United States the right to free speech, freedom of religion and freedom to gather & protest is bordering on a religion. In most of the world, even free countries like Australia and New Zealand, things like freedom to gather and protest aren't worshipped to the same extent.

We have more freedom than the USA and also more law abidance.

Our vaccinnations are going as fast as supply allows, at the moment around 32% have had at least one dose.

In the meantime our economy is the best in the world and whilst we can actually 'see' each and every infection on a map--i.e. we can map the contacts that have given infected the virus- which you and most others can't because its run out of control, we are happy with a short sharp 'lockdown'* so that we can have 100% crowds again in a couple of weeks.

*Not too much to sacrifice, even though the 'lockdown' has pretty much not changed the way I went about my work this past week.

I don’t understand why governments don’t just take the mindset if people want to get sick, let them. At this point anyone who doesn't get the vaccine (like myself) is willfully endangering their health. But if that’s their choice, what’s the big deal?

I know, “because you can get others sick.” That’s not entirely true. If you are worried about getting sick you get the vaccine, stay indoors, wear a mask, and stay away from others. This whole thing really boils down to that simple policy. I know Australia has had a piss poor vaccine rollout, but that doesn’t change anything from above.

And last I checked Australia has 900 Covid deaths. Is that right? I bet more people die from the many poisonous animals they have down there. I bet drunk drivers kill more than that per year and we know Australia won’t be banning alcohol. I’d be angry too if 900 people died and they are locking down the country again. Apologies if this is insensitive, but that’s a joke. I bet the standard flu kills more than that in Australia and they don’t lock down for that.

Covid isn't the "standard flu", peabrain, and Australia has fewer deaths because it has treated the pandemic as a crisis.

The sheer intelligibility of that claim is proof of the removal of your cerebral cortex. The US has lost more American lives to Covid in a year than in 4 years of combat in WW2, and almost as many as in the Civil War. But it isn't a crisis that requires a response - whether in Australia or the US - to a mind like yours. Australia lost 17,500 to coronary heart disease, which is usually caused by bad eating habits, in 2018 alone- that's more Australians lost than in any single year during WWII.

In fact more Australians lost their lives to Coronary Heart Disease between 2016 and 2018 than in all of WWII (27,000 Australians died in WWII). However, Australia still has 982 McDonalds restaurants located in its country.

Shame on Australia.
