Oh, OK, I'm convinced. In fact, your reply arguably reinforces my false sophistication argument. Let's see if I can put it more clearly: When you vote for a pathologically lying immoral autocrat because your taxes MIGHT be a little lower, and/or you convince yourself that he's the only R in a very large country who would appoint conservative judges or reduce regulation, you are making an ethically/morally questionable decision. There might be "other" reasons for it, but it doesn't change the fundamental moral/ethical flaw. Honestly, when 47% of the voting public decides that they're OK with pathological lying and utter disregard for the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans, I REALLY, REALLY don't care what the other "reasons" are.

I got that impression as well. It's easy to get caught up in just following the crowd.

I did something similar when I was a student in England. I was walking alone in Westminster one day when I saw a line forming outside Parliament. Assuming it was a line to take a tour, I stood in it.

I was only half right. They weren't giving tours to the public that day but a Member of Parliament was hosting a private tour for some friends and family. I was already through security before anyone realized that I wasn't supposed to be there. When the MP heard my accent he exclaimed, "Are you and American?". I sheepishly admitted that I was and everyone laughed. The MP was very gracious and let me continue on with them. He even introduced me to his wife who was also an American.

The private tour was amazing. We had a guide who was an expert and we got to see a lot of things you don't see on the regular tour.

So for those who went inside the capital on Wednesday and peacefully wandered around, they lucked into the experience of a lifetime. That is, if they can avoid prosecution.

I don't know just what specific post(s) to which you're referring, but there were signs of new case rate flattening, albeit at a very high level, in the week or two before Christmas. Behavior of the trend since is more difficult to interpret because of the holidays, but it's only in the last couple days that we've had new case days significantly higher than the second half of December.

Projecting from what was known prior to the last few days that deaths might similarly flatten with a peak right about now isn't idiotic. It may well turn out to be wrong, but it isn't idiotic.

For what it's worth, the thing I find most disappointing about this forum is the consistent failure of anyone on the right to engage in substantial discussion. Trollminator posts a lot of stuff that I could do without, but this post was detailed and thoughful. Something that I for one would like to see more of.

His most likely path is exile if someone will take him.

I'm not sure the US would allow him to flee to exile. He might get there, but I have to think we would get him back either by pressure or force. Can't have a former President being protected by an enemy country...that's a security risk.

I must apologize to the rational posters like you. I admit I am still running a victory lap, which had to be extended due to the glorious GA win. I also enjoy stomping on the stooges here for good measure.

As far as substance, about 3 months into trump's first term the trumpers here became unable to engage with any reasonable support. They quickly turned to whataboutisms and every other post was blaming Obama, Bill and Hillary. Soon after they all went into a fast downward spiral and started to repeat anything that trump tweeted and said. They stopped trying to defend his altogether. And here we are.

Winter was a prime reason for a slow down of cases. More people self-isolate in cold regions of the country when highs go below freezing. The virus didn't suddenly become less contagious. Death will remain high through April.

The new variant is actually a GOOD thing. It is more contagious, but it is less lethal. That is typical of what viruses do. Don't want to kill the host, you know. The vaccines still work on it, and the fools who won't get the vaccine have less of a chance of dying from it.

The lines get blurred if trump "travels" to another country and then is charged with a crime and refuses to return. If he's charged before leaving it complicates things for him and the host country. The GOP would not be able to publicly defend him very well.

Trump had been screeching out the names of those he decided were guilty for days before the riots. His rioters knew who Trump wanted dealt with. Trumpers failure was that is rioters failed to breech the off-limits area where the Senators and Representatives were hunkered down. That area where where the woman who was shot and died was trying to get inside to open the doors.
