I dunno anymore...the loss of the senate and the riots yesterday may have changed things.
I'd still say Trump will win the nomination if he runs (unless he runs from prison or has been impeached and banned from office)...but I'm less confident in that now.

No, he won't start his own party. He's likely to be banned permanently from Facebook Twitter and will become an angry old man that appears occasionally on OANN and Newsmax. He will drop of the radar within a year.
All democrats will be rounded up and charged with treason.

Trump will not run as a republican. That party is dead as far as he is concerned. He will encourage his loyal congressional supporters to switch over to his party. Nunez, Getz and others will follower their leader. Cruz will turn out to be a traitor and remain a Republican.

Yesterday, 52 people were arrested when a mob of perhaps a couple of hundred, many of them armed, stormed the Capitol and tried to take down the government. Of those arrested, 47 were arrested later in the evening, for curfew violation.
I understand that there may be more arrests, since many of these idiots are on video. But how does a mob invade the Capitol building and only 5 of them get arrested? My initial thought yesterday when I found out that Trumpers were inside the Capitol was that they should simply lock the doors, and just arrest all of them that were inside. However, it now looks like the Capitol Police would have been outmanned and probably outgunned within the building itself, and couldn't possibly have arrested those who entered the building without initiating a deadly gunfight.
I assume there will be an investigation into the police response yesterday. The Capitol Police were obviously overwhelmed. Since what happened really wasn't unanticipated, I'd like to know why there weren't more, and more effective, law enforcement present before things got out of hand. I hate to be cynical, but a small part of me wonders if Trump was somehow involved in intentionally minimizing the police presence at the Capitol. There have been vague reports about when and whether the National Guard was called in, whether the initial request for assistance from the Nat'l Guard was denied, and why it was Pence and not Trump who ultimately ordered the Nat'l Guard to respond.

When the backup arrived all those people were still in there. They could have blocked the exits and made the arrests then. Certainly very different treatment from social justice protests.

Yes, one of the best qualified and most experienced members of the Trump Cabinet, and one of the very few who I thought would last the full four years.
But if she'd remained and there *was* a push to use the 25th Amendment, her husband would (by implication) have been put in a terrible position. Her resignation spares him that.

Impeachment and removal from office is the much better route in my opinion.
If there were consensus that Trump is a clear and present danger to the republic over the remaining two weeks of this term the 25th Amendment article 4 is, by far the quicker route to removing presidential powers.
My expectation is that no such decisive action will happen, rather we'll buckle up and ride out the term with nothing beyond rhetoric and hope for the best.
You do have a point. They could do both. Invoke the 25th and then impeach. You can still impeach a president once he leaves office.
But I think the 25th is off the table. Elaine Chao just resigned and she is one of the cabinet members they need to make it work.

pence should promise a pardon if trump resigns, but cross his fingers behind his back when he makes the promise.
Trump resigns, Pence doesnt' pardon and everyone is happy.
