If that third of the nation continues on that road, we will lose our democracy, yes. 70 million is a very large number of people, most of them armed, convinced they are the good guys, and willing to act.

But maybe when Trump isn't president they will return to the fold and democracy can be saved.

That 1/3rd of the country is spread out. There is no centralization of anything. Many of the terrorist rioters flew in from all states in the country. To kill democracy this leaderless group would need to use public roads and shop at stores and get gas at stations along they way to the big cities they would have to take over. Logistically that is not possible.

the likely scenario would be chaos and resultantly states and DC calling for martial law.

political arrests ensue and it's a war for survival.

It won't be a traditional war. It will be a fed government asserting too-strong control, ending liberty and the like.

I doubt Trumpism itself has much of a shelf life but for the next couple of years it will likely remain in the public eye at least until those supporting it realize it isn't going to help them. There are certain areas of the country where this will never happen because these knuckleheads will always be voted in by the knuckleheads in the party.

The number of malcontents is not 70M. Polls seem to indicate about 60% of Trump's voters believe the election was fraudulent, or about 40M.

so much depends on whether a new Trump rises.

There is a good chance no one steps up and claims leadership of the deplorables. Then this passion would dissipate slowly.

But if someone rises and leads them...then we're in trouble.

Trump is amazingly good at what he does. I don't see anyone nearly as talented.

Junior is probably the most likely guy to step up.

You are wrong. You understand nothing about supply chains needed for a war. Sure, let 20,000 armed Trumper--even 100,000--and have them enter New York City and take it over. Let us know how turns out for you.

PS. Stop trying to convince Trumpers they have a chance to overthrown the U.S.A.
