I'd love to go this way with you but I just can't. McConnell, Pence, et. al. are finally saying/doing what appear to be the right things, only when FINALLY, they had no other choice. It had to literally come down to the White House being stormed before they would do the right thing. Up until this I really thought trump would retain enough followers to possibly be a threat in 2024 but I don't think this is recoverable even for him. He will retain a shocking number of followers as it will be laid bare (again) just how unhinged a wide swath of this country really is, but I really believe his days as kingmaker for the GOP at large, are over. Certainly he will retain and work to grow (hideously) the 'grassroots' types we saw yesterday; the saga of Donald J. Trump is far from over and will be an ongoing thorn in America's side. Lots of power to be had building support among well-armed, conspiracy theorizing, religiously conservative militia types.

I also think the republican party will be irreparably fractured; I honestly don't believe McConnell will be able to repair this damage. There are people on the right seriously calling for someone like Pence to be tried for treason for f**ks sake. Those types are going to double down on all this and it is likely to be a way bigger problem for the GOP than the likes of 'The Squad' will be for the Dems; appeasing the right politically is going to be really unattractive and untenable for McConnell if he hopes for election wins nationally for the foreseeable future . Lots 0f political ad fodder was generated yesterday; sorry to be cynical but no way around that, especially when after all this 6 Senators and 140 Representatives persisted in followed through with their objections.

McConnell, Graham, Pence, and the rest, they all chose to take the Donald Express because they either didn't give a crap what he did as long as it moved them closer to solidifying their power and control, or simply feared his base for whatever reasons. And, like all the trolls out there crying "Trump Derangement Syndrome" when the deranged one was the object of their love and affection and blind fealty all along, they CHOSE to ride this thing right to the edge of the cliff, and what do you know, off the cliff it went.

They can say what they want, backtrack all they want, harrumph about how awful this all is, but any halfway intelligent person will never forget what they did when they still had a choice.

Hard to say. Even if some are not morbidly obese, they are wired with white anxiety and generally fear leaving their safe spaces. You could see it when those people entered the capitol building yesterday. Most were walking and staring cautiously with eyes bulging. Their real addiction is desperation. They like to consume online content to keep feeding their anger and victimhood. Sure, some will act out but most just want to see someone else own the libs.

There were at least a couple of posters who bragged about trolling Trumpsters on Parlor. Some of these people are unhinged and will obviously act. Inciting them is dangerous.

Sally is referring to me. I've been on Parler for several months and infiltrated some groups of disgruntled trumpers. I saw the opportunity to convince many to boycott the GA runoffs so that is what I did. I helped organize local GA events, collaborated with other organizers (one which I later learned was also a Dem), and generally lent my support when fellow trumpers needed to vent about losing their hero. I filled some of the rage void and gave them a great idea of how to better use their voting capital. And trust me, most were delighted to see that "their" plan worked. They stuck it to the GOP who didn't rescue their savior when he most needed it. It was a win-win situation.

See. Here is one of them. I'm not going to go as far as saying that your actions led to what happened yesterday, but I'm not going to say you helped either.

STOP this behavior now. It is not helping our nation right now.

I wonder if McConnell and many other senators regret not voting to convict and remove Trump last year when they had the chance.

I think it's a lot due to their emotional and intellectual levels. Trump never really made it out of early puberty, neither emotionally nor intellectually, and he appeals to people who are similarly retarded on both axes.

This entire temper tantrum is juvenile even for an early pubescent, frankly, and I'd suggest it is only getting traction amonst the base that are similarly retarded, and the cynical operators of the GOP (who are envious of the emotionally rabid support of that base).

I am of two minds about this. On the one hand extraordinary situations call for extraordinary measured. I don't begrudge troll for the work he did to help turn the GA election. This sent a strong message to the GOP and will help enable the next couple of years and beyond to be successful along a number of dimensions.

That said, I would agree that moving forward as a general operating rule it is wrong to lie and mislead people. It further perpetuates a cycle of swampiness that we badly need to get away from.

This is my way of saying... well done troll... now please stop.

Nobody on here incited anyone to storm the Capitol and try to take down the government.

I agree with you that inciting Trump supporters to commit treasonous and violent acts would be wrong and dangerous, but nobody who posts on this thread did that. Convincing people to sit out the GA runoff is not the same as convincing to do what we saw yesterday.

I agree with you that if the Republican leaders were actually leaders they could have lead with the truth and not lead the base to believe that the election and democracy was stolen from them. This did great harm.

I do put greater blame than you on the voter, the base. Our electorate is the great reinforcer. Through our behavior at the polls we either reinforce or discourage types of behavior and people. We reinforced unprincipled people to lie to us. As an electorate we never wanted the full truth but then we really got carried away and didn't want any semblance of the truth. We chose all these people who are lying to us. They didn't get in power by accident. Its who we wanted.

Grant there are systematic issues that need changing (as I mentioned before) such as the electoral college, gerrymandering, citizen's united and all or none delegates from states that made this fertile ground to happen. But millions of us have been willfully ignorant and allowed the Trump types to gain power.

Maybe this was a wake up call?

I disagree.

Think about is some Republican was doing the same thing to the far left wing of our party. They were telling people to stay home and not vote for Warnock or Ossoff because they were not 'liberal' enough and would not push for certain legislation.
